Lee Roy Selmon remains hospitalized this morning in critical condition after the 56-year-old Hall of Famer suffered a stroke on Friday.
Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune reports that a spokesman for the University of South Florida said family members are calling the situation “grave.” False reports circulated Friday that Selmon, the only member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, had passed.
Lucious Selmon said his younger brother had a 20 percent chance of survivial with brain damage, according to KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City. It’s been reported that Selmon has a blood clot in his heart. He’s been a fundraiser for USF since stepping down as athletic director in 2004. He resigned from that role because of heart and stress issues, according to another brother Dewey Selmon.
Selmon is a revered figure in the Tampa community for the tireless work he’s done for decades.
