New York Jets Peyton a Jet? Really?

NFL.com news: Beat reporter believes Jets could pursue Peyton Manning

Beat reporter believes Jets could pursue Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning in green and white?
The idea of seeing the heart and soul of the Colts dress for anyone else would serve as a jarring departure from life as we've known it since 1998. But it's not as outrageous as it sounds, according to one Jets beat reporter.

Manish Mehta, who covers the Jets for the New York Daily News, believes coach Rex Ryan's uber-appetite for a Super Bowl ring could lead to a new home for Manning, the four-time NFL MVP. That is, if the stars align.
"If Peyton Manning does become a free agent, you know, for argument's sake, (Stanford's Andrew) Luck gets drafted by Indianapolis, and the Colts cut ties with Manning, if he checks out physically -- and I know that's a big if -- but if that is the case, the Jets will make a call to inquire about Peyton Manning," Mehta said Tuesday on "PFT Live."
For the record, Ryan has denied any interest in Manning. All of this would hinge on the quarterback's successful recovery from his third neck procedure in the last two years and, of course, what Colts owner Jim Irsay plans to do with his star quarterback in the wake of firing vice chairman Bill Polian and general manager Chris Polian. The Colts, of course, also hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
"I'm not a betting man, but if you were a betting man, I think the smart money is that -- when you factor in Rex Ryan's affinity for Peyton Manning ... if he's available, one; if he's healthy, two ... the Jets will inquire about him," Mehta said.

"Now, it remains to be seen if a deal can be struck, and, again, we're looking far into the future here because it is a big if; if he's going to get cut for one and be available and, again, who knows about his health? But I think the Jets would really make a legitimate inquiry into Peyton Manning because of Rex Ryan's affinity for him. He thinks he's the best quarterback, when healthy, in the league -- better than Tom Brady, better than Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, all those guys."
For now, it's a theory. Nothing more than the stuff of dreams, but this much is clear: If Peyton to the Jets ever went down, it would represent dark times for anyone quietly longing for a pensive, more reserved Rex Ryan in 2012.
    LOL

No way this is gonna happen.

If he goes anywhere, I could see him going to SF. It's a team that is playoff ready; and just needs a QB and maybe another playmaker WR. And it's not in the AFC, where the Colts would have to worry about him.

Given the problems Ryan has with Sanchez you could never say never but I think it's highly doubtful. To me it seems more likely that Manning will play another year or maybe even two with Luck learning what Manning knows about running that offense then Luck steps in and Manning retires. Of course that's if Manning is healhy enough to play.

Because the new CBA has put a big lid on rookie contracts it's not as if the Colts will have huge money tied up in both Luck and Manning. You can afford to let him play backup for a year while he learns the offense from one of the best. That worked out pretty well for Green Bay didn't it?
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

That would be interesting. "Broadway Peyton."

Is "The Big Apple" big enough to hold both Manning brothers?

NFL.com news: Big Apple big enough for both Mannings? Eli would make room

Big Apple big enough for both Mannings? Eli would make room

It remains pure speculation, but Giants quarterback Eli Manning sees solid upside to the distant prospect of his older brother, Peyton, winding up with the Jets next season.

"It would be fun," Eli told WEPN-AM on Monday. "We could probably commute to work maybe, and, you know, come home, eat dinner together and have the kids be playing."
He continued to dream: "Twin beds ... we could share notes on opponents and watch some film together."
Eli's musings sound like a lost chapter from "The Royal Tenenbaums," touching on the rich harmony that a Manning & Manning era in the Big Apple would usher in.
Two country boys at heart, riding the subway together and crushing huge meals in Chinatown before long wintertime strolls along the boardwalk at Coney Island. Besides, it would serve as a Rex Ryan coup d'état for the ages, allowing the Jets coach to unfurl his manic bluster unhindered for another 1,000 days if everything went as planned.
Lost in all of this are the Colts, who hold the cards and could keep Peyton and Eli a redeye flight away for as long as they'd like.

"I don't know what's going to happen in that situation," Eli said, one day after wiping the Packers off the playoff map. "So, would it be fun? Yeah, I think it would be interesting to have your brother in the same city playing football together. I don't think we would see each other that often, just 'cause I don't think our schedules would be a whole lot different, probably just talk on the phone more than see each other during the season, but, you know, it would be interesting.
"I'm not saying it's gonna happen or I want it to happen, but to have your brother that close to you and playing in New York would be very unique."
Archie, the Manning patriarch, doesn't really see Peyton leaving Indy, but it's intriguing grist for the mill until the Colts make up their minds on how to progress with the franchise's pole star.
