Junior Seau Dead - Suicide
11:33 AM PDT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... Seau died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
Back in 2011, former NFL star Dave Duerson shot himself in the chest ... and explained in his suicide note that he wanted his brain donated to a research center because he believed the blows he took to the head during his football career caused him to become mentally impaired.
11:27 AM PDT -- We're told a 911 call came in around 10:00 AM. No word on who made the call.
11:26 AM PDT -- The North County Times is reporting Seau's body was discovered by his housekeeper.
11:23 AM PDT -- The coroner just arrived on scene.
11:20 AM PDT -- The San Diego Chargers have posted a tweet saying, "We don’t have any information right now on the Junior Seau situation. We pray he's ok."

NFL legend
Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA ... and a law enforcement source at the scene tells us cops believe he shot himself.
Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.
Cops are currently at Seau's home -- located in San Diego County -- and were seen talking with a man who was inside the house and appeared distraught.

As @chris_strauss pointed out in our office, Seau shot himself in the chest, not the head...just like Dave Duerson.

Wow, this is beginning to get overwhelming. If this is linked to the same CTE the Duerson killed himself over all of a sudden the NFL may have a huge mess on their hands. I give anything to be a fly on the wall of their legal department this AM.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Could lead to more "pussification" of the NFL

It was more directed at those who think that the NFL is killing the game by making it safer.

Yes, it is sad. Any time someone takes their life, it is a very sad incident. Let's just hope that some good comes out of this, and they are able to do some research when they examine his brain. Hopefully his death will not have been in vain

Seau's apparent suicide ruined your day, or someone's post on a messageboard?
The first one makes sense...because it is horrible indeed. The second.....not so much.
The NFL is in a serious legal quagmire over concussions. Whether or not Seau committed suicide, and whatever the reason for that, this just made that legal quagmire worse.
It's looking like the league in general may be in jeopardy at some point. Either that or they stop wearing helmets all together (and possibly pads for that matter) in order to curb the invincible mentality of players using their bodies as weapons.

Was it Ditka or Butkus that suggested that they stop wearing facemasks and go back to leather helmets? For that exact reason too; these guys don't try and tackle anymore, they launch there whole body head first into the other guys head. If anyone watched the womens liengerie league, those girls wore hardly no padding, lacrosse helmets and still hit eachother hard, but tackled correct and the few games I saw didn't have a ton of injuries.
This is also why the NFL hammered the hell out of the Saints players and staff, they cannot afford to have a reputation of allowing players to knowing take out others.
I'm very saddened for Seau's family loss, and for Seau himself to have this kind of state of being to feel the need to do that.
This is the 8th person that died since the SD ECCG back in 94 I think, and that's just 1 team, all for various reasons; but that has to be disconcerting to the NFL.
