Former Miami Dolphins DE Phillip Merling signs with the Green Bay Packers
Phillip Merling has signed a free-agent contract with the Green Bay Packers becoming the second former Miami Dolphin this week to sign elsewhere.
Merling played defensive end for the Dolphins for four seasons before he was released last month.
Former Dolphins strong safety Yeremiah Bell, who also was released by Miami, signed this week with the New York Jets.
Merling, whose signing was announced in a press release by the Packers, was a second-round pick by the Dolphins in 2008. In 46 games he had 66 tackles, eight pass deflections, 3.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception returned for a touchdown.
The Dolphins currently have seven defensive ends on their roster including former Miami Hurricane Vernon Olivier, who was a third-round draft pick last month.
The Dolphins are in their second day of organized training activities today, which is closed.

Interestingly enough, his one interception for a touchdown was against Favre to lock up the 2008 AFC East Division championship for the Dolphins.
