Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens agree to five-year, $35M deal

The Baltimore Ravens and running back Ray Rice reached an agreement Monday on a five-year, $35 million deal.
The deal includes escalators that can bring the total amount to $40 million.
News of Rice's deal came down just prior to Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. Rice, who had yet to sign his one-year, $7.742 million franchise tender, said Saturday he was "optimistic" of a deal getting done.
The 25-year-old posted career-bests of 1,364 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns (third in the NFL) in 2011. Rice, a two-time Pro Bowl selection has rushed for 4,377 yards and 24 TDs for his career.
I wonder if Forte's deal helped to speed this along? ^^

Why it's the same deal as Forte +1 year(ESPN Radio had it at 40 mil). But if this is the case, Forte got a better deal....guess Rice isn't elite....8o

Exactly, its about the same deal Forte got. Which is the same deal Lynch got.

    Rice>Forte>Lynch

Forte SHOULD have gotten more than Lynch. Rice SHOULD have gotten more than Forte.

No RICE got Less then Forte if he got 35 over 5 years, b/c it's only 3 mil more then Forte for 1 more year less per year average. If he got 40 over 5 years he got EXACTLY what Forte got, but for 1 more year.

Rice got less, which is the surprising part. Which means he gets less than Lynch which is also the surprising part.

This is the per year average for every RB(rounded up or down accordingly). Rice/McCoy/Forte all new contracts all elite and all at 8 mil a year. DWill/Lynch are overpaid, and we all agreed last year he was. Lynch and Forte weren't on the list, but we know/I found where it was. But Forte/Rice are all right in line w/CJ, Foster(who are clearly better), and McCoy, Jax, Charles, and Turner= to or below them.

    AP avg 13 mil
    Darren McF avg 10 mil
    C Johnson avg 9 mil
    A Foster avg 9 mil
    D Will avg 8.7mil
    R Rice avg 8 mil
    Forte avg 8 mil
    McCoy avg 8 mil
    Lynch avg 8 mil
    S Jax avg 7 mil
    J Charles avg 7 mil
    M Turner avg 6 mill

Somethings don't match here, Lynch and Dwill making more then Jax Charles and Turner. Everything else is right on point.

The thing that makes Rice deal top almost all of them is that he's guaranteed $25 mil over the first two years. To me that's a ridiculous sum for two years but they must have cap space they need to use up I guess the decided to use it there.

Matt's only getting about $17 with his incentives over two but can earn almost $23 over three if he hits all of his bonuses. Most of the rest (AP and CJ excluded) are getting $20-$22 mil over three years with $40 mil of more over 5 year but none of that is guaranteed. Rice can earn up to $40 mil too but only that first $25 is guaranteed.

The new CBA forces teams to spend nearly all of their cap in 2013 and thereafter so if they have an excess to use up we'll probably see more of these front ended deals. Tampa Bay could afford all of the FA deals they made this past spring because they had a huge excess and if they didn't use it in 2012 they would have been forced to in 2013.
