Cedric Benson out for eight weeks with Lisfranc injury
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy already confirmed that running back Cedric Benson won't play Sunday against the Houston Texans after he injured his left foot against the Indianapolis Colts.
McCarthy was conservative. NFL.com and NFL Network's Steve Wyche reported Monday night that Benson will be out approximately eight weeks with a Lisfranc injury, which would place his return somewhere around the first week of December -- if he doesn't need potentially season-ending surgery. The Packers can't afford to lose a veteran back like Benson, who leads the team with 248 yards on 71 carries. Their next leading rusher, Alex Green, has just 57 yards and is representative of Green Bay's paper-thin backfield. You can't trek through the meat of your schedule throwing screens to Randall Cobb all day. Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee reminds us that running back James Starks was a healthy scratch for the Colts game after recovering from a lingering case of turf toe. He joins Green, Brandon Saine and John Kuhn as Green Bay's remaining healthy backs. Not exactly The Four Horsemen there.
More bad news for the cheeseheads.

Always sad to see a player getting injuried. Most sad when it's a key player and could ruin the season for their team.
Guess the Packers will be out a running game for 8 weeks. Sad for them.

I never wish an injury upon a player unless it's Cedric Benson... then it's OK.

How is Cedric Benson a key player on their offense? Packers are a passfirst team always. His absence is not really that bad

How is he not? At least with him in the backfield we actually had a semblance of a run game. Even pass first teams need a run threat. He was doing quite well before being injured.

Screw your running game, I need the packers to throw the ball more to the wr because I dumped Finley and picked up James Jones and Randall Cobb in my FF league.

Why would you even think of picking up Jermichael Dropley? Did someone give you a really good player along with him or something?

I had to draft a TE and at the time he was the best player available.
