What Would Tom Jackson Say If Cutler Had Said This?............
Is Peyton Manning throwing as well as ever?
Some question arm strength, but his passes remain precise.
Jeff Fedotin
November 29, 2012, 12:30 PM EST Asked by a reporter if his passes are a bit more wobbly and less frequently resemble the tight spirals of his Colts days, Broncos QB Peyton Manning became a bit defensive — and very facetious.
“Is it of concern to you?” Manning said. “Is it something I need to fix to make you feel better? You tell me. I’ll work on it today if it’s bothering you.” (What are the odds that if Cutler had responded to a question that way that it would be all over the national press and on ESPN every half hour. Manning says it and he's credited with being "facetious" yet everyone would take Cutler serious and label him and smart ass jerk. Dontcha just love double standards?)
Reporters also have bothered Broncos coach John Fox with questions about Manning’s arm strength — particularly after his quarterback threw three interceptions during the first quarter of a Week 2 loss against the Falcons.
They wondered if the neck surgeries, which forced Manning to miss all of last season, have affected his delivery, grip and arm strength. At times he has seemed to throw the occasional duck — unlike the kind of strikes he used to fire during the prime of his career.
Fox said Manning can make all the throws, but that he was never known as a cannon-armed quarterback who rifled passes into his receivers’ hands.
“He’s never had a howitzer,” Fox said. “He’s just been exceptionally accurate.” (And Cutler can do both)
Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson describes Manning as having “crazy accuracy,” though he noticed his passes looked a little less crisp early in the season.
“He’ll put the ball right on the money,” Johnson said. “You can have perfect coverage and be on your guy, and he throws a perfect ball.” (As does Cutler as often as not. Now if they'd only catch them.)
That ball placement is a reason why Manning has been mentioned as an MVP candidate. His 2012 statistics not only demonstrate his productivity, but also reflect favorably when compared to his time with the Colts when he won four MVPs. (And yet I don't here anyone mentioning Cutler and MVP is the same breath but without him we'd probably be 3-8 instead of 8-3 and so would the Broncos without Manning)
Manning is on pace to finish with 4,741 yards, 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. That would amount to the most passing yards he has ever thrown in a season, though the front-running Colts often played their backup quarterback at the end of the season to preserve Manning for the playoffs.
Manning’s 38 touchdowns would represent the best mark of his career since he topped Dan Marino’s single-season record (of 48) in 2004. The 12 interceptions would be his lowest total since 2008.
His completion percentage of 67.7 would rank as the second highest figure of his career. And Manning may be getting even better. He said he still rehabs his neck daily and is adjusting to his new passing targets after 14 years with the Colts.
“I’m still learning about my injury and about my body.” Manning said. “I’m still learning about my receivers and my new teammates.”
One thing that has not changed is his work ethic, which Fox effusively praised. Always known as a meticulous grinder, Manning now has a supporting cast that can grind out clock.
Even though RB Willis McGahee suffered a serious knee injury, Johnson said the quality of the Broncos offensive line gives Manning a more productive and prolific rushing attack than he had in Indianapolis.
Manning also benefits from Denver’s strong defense, which ranked sixth in the NFL heading into Week 12. Bookend pass rushers, Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller, anchor the unit and have combined for 22 sacks. Miller, a second-year player, has 25.5 sacks in 26 games despite a thumb injury, which limited him during his rookie season.
“There’s no doubt he would’ve broken the rookie sack record (of 14.5),” Fox said, “had he not injured that ligament in his thumb and played one-handed down the stretch.” Miller and Dumervil have formed a potent pass-rushing duo like the Dwight Freeney-Robert Mathis combo during Manning’s days in Indianapolis.
While Manning played for the Colts, Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel regularly gameplanned against him. The Patriots defensive coordinator from 2001-04 faced Manning’s Colts six times during that stretch and sees him twice in 2012 as the Chiefs battle their AFC West rival, the Broncos.
Though Manning now sports orange and blue, recent film study of him has looked disturbingly familiar to the Chiefs coach. “He looks like the Peyton Manning of old,” Crennel said, “unfortunately.”

When Cutler wins something, he will be treated differently. Until then, please let it go... At least let it go here. If I want to read Bear fan whining about how there is some double standard in the media, I will read the main board.
Lastly, it amazes me how a Chicago fan can get upset about any of this crap anyway. I mean one of your own writers completely tore down one Michael Jordan before he won a thing. Jordan wins and now is widely considered the greatest to ever play.
Besides, why do any of you care about what the talking heads say? For all of the talk around here about how none of you care, a lot of you certainly do bring it up a lot.

100% agreed. I've never seen a fan base that gets so easily shaken up by what the media says about their team. Apparently they don't realize it's done to sell their story, and they're buying it hook, line, and sinker. News flash: the media's opinion doesn't have any bearing on the games that are played, nor will they ever. Let it die FFS.

Evernight it was posted specifically for those who won't let it die. My guess is that this doesn't apply to you, jokr, or dozens of others who post here but it does apply to the few who want to post the negatives and ignore the positives.
Just CC yourself on what I posted to jokr and I won't need to dupe it here. I don't give a shit what the press says either. I don't form my opinions based on that. I have a mind that's capable of processing information and coming to my own conclusions.
This was done primarily for the benefit of those around here who don't use theirs in that same fashion. You may have noticed that the only two comments about this came from the two of you who aren't Bears fans. Maybe it hit home to some of the others. Ya' think?

I guess we will have to take you at your word, because everyone in the NFCN knows that the Viking fans would be one fan base that knows what it's like to be a non winner. Unlike the Viking we respect our players and expect them to be respected in the media, especially when they haven't done anything to justify unnecessary and unjust comments made from spite and nothing else. Oh and there is enough whining on the Viking board for all the teams in the NFCN.
Like I said before in all the time I played in the NFL I never remember said one word to anyone as I entered the building nor do I recall any other players saying anything unless someone spoke to them first. I am 100% sure that Chris Ponder doesn't walk around saying hi to everyone as he enters the building, he is not thinking about being nice he is thinking about the up coming game. What would you have said if TJ had said that about Ponder, I am sure most Viking fans would say BS or who give a damn what TJ said. Oh and to clear one thing up TJ was no prince to be around when he was a player.

There's nothing wrong with admitting that Cutler is an asshole.
So, Yeah, this one instance was nothing, but he has been a dick for a long time. Trying to compare one instance of leyton manning getting shitty to Cutler is absurd.

There's one fundamental difference between Manning and Cutler.
Peyton isn't the same quarterback he was before the injury. Might be due to muscle atrophy after the nerve damage, might be due to taking more than a year off to heal. He's defensive about his ability now as it compares to back before the injury.
Cutler, conversely...

I blame Josh McDanials for this one.
