Lame. That team is a staple of NFL tradition. They'll prolly go the way of the Seahawks and wear some skidmark-looking uniformss. Just go ahead and get the name change over with. Here. I'll help and give the team a head start: Washington Sea Donkeys. Just give em all black alternative uni's (cuz black = kewl!!!1111), with neon yellow trim and camouflage.
Change the New York Giants.... the giantism and acromegaly community is slapped in the face year after year.
My Cleveland Indians will surely be next.
Easy there, benji. That's my team. I'd be devastated.

WAHOO. 4. LIFE.
We could show more respect in more conventional ways...
...like not polluting.
Seminoles and many other tribes don't have a problem w/it. Many would consider it an honor to be known as a fierce proud warrior long remembered.
but it's not offensive or racist, hence the the VAST majority of indians not giving a shit. It's bitches that want to be insulted, like all these people up in arms about Brent Musbergers comments about the Alabama qb's girlfriend and mom; he said they were hot, how dare he.....except they don't care, said they didn't care and she's actually a f'n beauty pagent contestant. So who's really offended, and why? If you were to go and ask 1000 people who the redskins are, they'd say the Washington NFL team 1000 times, not the American Indians. Stop being an overly sensitive bitch.
Again, it doesnt matter how many people you think are offended, its still a racial slur and stereotype and hence offensive (also, its been alot more then the 7 you claim, since there have been more lawsuits then that filed against the Redskins by Native American groups over the years).
Or what if the Giants changed their team name to the New York Negroes, to pay homage to the strong work ethic of the negro man in America. Would that be offensive? Just like the word "Redskin," "Negro" in itself is not an offensive word, but its the historical connotations of its use that make it offensive.
And just like you said, if you asked 1000 people, they would associate the term "Redskin" with the team...now why is that? Because its such an archaic term in society that it has been replaced by "Indian" and then "Native American" as a proper way to describe that group of people. We stopped using it because it is an offensive term.
Ric..... say someone used a racial slur about you. Sure, it could also affect others, but no one else complains about it but you.... is it still a problem? Or is it a non issue if you are the only one who takes offense?
Calling an Indian a redskin, would be like calling an African American a "darkie or a blackskin" how well do you think that would go over?
It's funny when we use the word "we" as in "we" find the word offensive. That is the majority not the minority. If we're going to split hairs every person could be effected by the use of a word either positively or negatively. In my neck of the woods a local HS here got rid of the moniker "warriors" b/c that was deemed offensive. For the word "Redskins" ok sure go ahead change it but warriors? C'mon man.
If I'm offended that people are offended that too is also a view.
