Seriously? Warriors?
I could understand if your school had a guy dressed up like an Indian prancing around.... but wow.

Well, if i had to guess, it was probably because it stirs up an image of violence, something which alot of schools are very cautious about nowadays.
And yes, i agree that "offensive" is entirely subjective. A team mascot named the "Tigers" is not offensive, but if your son was mauled by a Tiger, then you probably would find it offensive.
However, as a society, we shouldnt pride ourselves on perpetuating terms that denigrated entire cultures and peoples throughout our history.
But if no one is offended, then it's not. That's the whole PC bullshit that dems so desperately want people to believe, b/c it's such a big part of their voting block. The minute some minority isn't offended they lose their free votes.
Honkey/whitey are both racist comments, but THEY ARE accepted, and no white man takes offense, so they are really NOT offensive; even if 7 or 700 white men actually are offended by it b/c their voices do not get a larger say then the VAST majority of other white men telling them to get over it.
Hell Hoosiers was a racist term used by Kentukians(of all people) to describe the backwater hillbilly Indiana folk. And Indiana USES as their name sake! So even if it was at one time, a racist term, it's not now.
Not one person thinks of the Redskins as a term meanning the leathery scalp of a Indian; no one(the original meaning of the word). They say oh that's the NFL team, the one w/the Indian on the side of it; nice colors, cool logo, crazy owner. good team had a good run for a rookie qb. And of a of the 5.1 mil currently in America, only 7 are(.000000125%) feel it still has a offensive meaning; that makes them VAST outliers in the community that SHOULD be offended, and has had NO problem bringing up complaints in the past about being offended. If the number is that small; then ya shut up about it.
No benj, if no one but me is offended by a broad generalzation, slur or other comment made about my culture, then I need to shut the hell up and stop being so f'n sensitve.
Some people these days are professionals at getting offended on behalf of other people. in fact the more offended you can get the better. Self-righteous baby, I'm more holier than thou!! :icon_smile_slap:
Kind of undermines any real sentiment but there you go. this Mayor, he doesn't happen to have bigger issues he is hoping to deflect from by going after an easy target does he? I mean I dont wanna be a cynic or anything but say, maybe a big corruption scandal, involving multiple felonies, illegal payments that kind of thing. Or maybe falling ratings and a fiscal catastrophe? nah, thought not.
Mayor Gray should resign, most D.C. residents say - Washington Post
How about the Washington Liberty
The funny thing is... the actual Native Americans could care less. The general consensus with them is that they are happy to be recognized and it doesn't even offend the majority of them. America is just full of uptight little girls. The Redskins have yet to cause a riot in the streets. And we aren't in an era of political correctness. We're in an era of mentardedness.
Yes, I said mentard. I am a closet mentardophobe.
