It's the principles of it. As a Bears fan I couldn't care less what the Redskins (see what I did there?) do with their name.
But you know what really upset me? Overreaction. The fact that people are becoming more sensitive than ever. Why do people complain and criticize about everything these days? Political correctness is really getting on my nerves.

Unfortunately it is the world we live in. Everything is going to offend someone. Look at Gilbert Godfrey. Now, every time he makes a "joke" on twitter, he immediately issues an apology just in case he offends someone. Is the world getting to sensitive? Sure. But there are some that I can understand. If Indians are finding the term redskin offensive, something should be done.

And I don't care for a couple of teams' names. I'm a minority, but I still exist. I say, people shouldn't bicker over these issues in the place of ACTUAL Native Americans. If they have a problem, and the collective majority have issue with it, and challenge it - great. I get it. But the hilarious part of this is that they don't care about it anywhere near how much the non-Native Americans seem to. That's where I see the ridiculousness in all of this.
And wizards depicted in mythology are a fictional portrayal of them. The actual wizards were/are associated with astrology, black magic, and sorcery (pharmakeia in Greek)..mind-altering medication being used to bring the person closer to the "spiritual realm" to communicate with the other side. Interestingly, we get the word "Pharmacy" from the original term "sorcery."

What about a single person or few who just wants to be the fly in the ointment and complain and really doesn't care? Sorry, like Ric said one person 7 people definitely NOT a multitude.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Its not that people are "more sensitive then ever," people (especially minorities) have been sensitive about these things for centuries. The only difference NOW is that weve finally reached a point in our history where we try to treat everyone (including minorities) as equals and with respect and they are able to voice their concerns over it. And part of that is getting rid of antiquated stereotypes and derogatory terms used on minorities in the past.
I'm trying//to let go//of maybe//but maybe's just so//very interesting//Oh, what a thing.

What bothers me is this fear that someone, somewhere will overreact to something that is used as an excuse/justification to rally against legitimate criticisms or concerns...nobody around here is suggesting that terms like "Yankees" or "Fighting Irish" or "Warriors" is offensive in anyway...however, those who find the term "Redskin" offensive have repeatedly been attempted to be grouped in with those who find EVERYTHING offensive; it's a bullshit argument...the inability to judge a single case on its own merits, without blowing it up into some grand indictment of our entire society, really gets on my nerves....the term "redskin" has always been and remains a racist term...anyone who can't admit that has zero creditability regarding this issue....

Washington Redskins name gets support in new U.S. poll
WASHINGTON -- It's been a rough offseason for the Washington Redskins, and not just because of the knee injury to star quarterback Robert Griffin III. The team's nickname has faced a new barrage of criticism for being offensive to Native Americans. Local leaders and pundits have called for a name change. Opponents have launched a legal challenge intended to deny the team federal trademark protection. A bill introduced in Congress in March would do the same, though it appears unlikely to pass.
But a new Associated Press-GfK poll shows that nationally, "Redskins" still enjoys wide support. Nearly four in five Americans don't think the team should change its name, the survey found. Only 11 percent think it should be changed, while 8 percent weren't sure and 2 percent didn't answer. Although 79 percent favor keeping the name, that does represent a 10 percentage point drop from the last national poll on the subject, conducted in 1992 by The Washington Post and ABC News just before the team won its most recent Super Bowl. Then, 89 percent said the name should not be changed, and 7 percent said it should. The AP-GfK poll was conducted from April 11-15. It included interviews with 1,004 adults on both land lines and cellphones. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. Several poll respondents told The AP that they did not consider the name offensive and cited tradition in arguing that it shouldn't change. "That's who they've been forever. That's who they're known as," said Sarah Lee, a 36-year-old stay-at-home mom from Osceola, Ind. "I think we as a people make race out to be a bigger issue than it is." But those who think the name should be changed say the word is obviously derogatory. "With everything that Native Americans have gone through in this country, to have a sports team named the Redskins - come on, now. It's bad," said Pamela Rogal, 56, a writer from Boston. "Much farther down the road, we're going to look back on this and say, 'Are you serious? Did they really call them the Washington Redskins?' It's a no-brainer."
Glad to see that most Americans realize how ridiculous this PC police bullshit is.
