KC Chiefs thread
This team is doing an AMAZING turnaround, in several ways. Dwayne Bowe has come out and stated that he believes in the leadership of the organization, a far cry from how things were last year. In addition, they've made up for overpaying (the Raiders upped their price) for Alex Smith, they've made up for it by restructuring Tyson Jackson's contract, saving them $10 million against the salary cap without extending him. They've also done a damn good job in getting depth, Signing CB Dunta Robinson, OL Bryan Mattison, WR Donnie Avery, QB Chase Daniel and TE Anthony Fasano. They are weaker on the O-line but are in the position to spend their first pick on anyone they want to. After letting Carr go to Dallas last year, and taking Routt from Oakland, they're in desperate need of a real starter at CB, but other than that, their secondary is pretty damn good*. If they could draft another o-lineman, I would say they would have a better offense on paper than the Bears, if only because the o-line is more stable. I really think they should draft a guard or RT with that first overall pick, and give Alex Smith all the time he needs to throw to some of those badass weapons he has. I could seriously see them winning the west next year, even with Wes and Manning.
*They just signed Sean Smith

I need to look up sources again, but there might be a bid to trade up for that first overall pick. The chiefs just need another RT, LB and a good NT wouldn't hurt.

The Chiefs have been all my cousin and I have talked about as far as the NFL goes on the topic of debate, and we both agree that the coaching was significantly worse than the Bears fans have ever complained about, because even with Cassel, this is a 10 win team. Reid's leaving his print on this team QUICKLY, and I forgot who their DC is, but dude is on point with the 3-4. If the Raiders didn't pull that d*ck move and for the Chiefs to give up a 2nd instead of a 3rd, they'd be in amazingly well set with either 2 high quality additions to the line, 2 new starters on defense or both. The crazy thing is, the Chiefs defense has some serious talent, and picking up a Bart Scott could plug the leak at ILB for this year at least, cheaply. Reid is a good enough coach to take a QB of this quality far, and seeing how scrambling qb's seem to flourish under Smith, I wouldn't be surprised to see him borderline pro bowl the first 2-3 years. With that said, i think they must draft a young guy to groom this year. I need to take another look at the d-line, but the secondary needs only depth, as the starters are all good quality, they need 2-3 playmakers at LB to get any respect at the position, and I forgot who plays the opposite defensive end spot of Tyson, but he needs replaced. I think the offense really only needs one more player on o-line for the offense to play at full speed; other than that, there's no reason to worry for them with Reid coaching(first legit coach since Herm Edwards), but if they can just fix 2 holes on defense, they're fucking gold. The Broncos are ***** on the salary cap, and Dumervil's idiot agent screwed up the paperwork, causing him to be accidentally released, so they're not as balanced on both sides as the Chiefs. I don't see ANYTHING in the Raiders defense that warrants interest, and I think Carson Palmer is at or below the Mendoza line for QB play in the current state of the league. The Chargers are an unknown, but require much more roster turnover than the Chiefs, just to have a strong pulse, but could shock everyone. If I were to bet, I'd place $50 on KC to win the division if they have a stellar draft.

Can you explain this? Did Oakland make an offer for Smith?

I don't know what offer they gave to the 49ers, but it forced the Chiefs to go from a 3rd to a 2nd. I'd have to imagine, tho, that the Raiders offered their 2nd. Man, if Reid can restore his offensive focus, this is a team to be excited about.
