I like several of these but I will comment on a couple and see what other thoughts are out there.
Houston signing, I really think this is going to BEAR lots of fruit for years to come. Houston reminds me of old school football, not a specialist at rushing but always knocking on the door and solid against the run. When push comes to shove he will want to get in on some of those sacks and with Allen's tutelage I expect great things ahead.
We often talk about Jay Cutler and his second year in the offense but often overlook Coach Trestmen being in his second year also. Last year was a busy year putting everything in place. This year Coach T will also get a chance to tweak his scheme and now he has the benefit of a years experience / knowledge of the divison. Expect some new twists in the scheme as well specifically designed from playing the division last year and having better insight into the Packers and Lions.
Like I said I like all of the concepts but will wait and see what others have to say
Nice. And then there's my personal #1 reason. I'll get to watch some games this year with a few hundred other crazed Bears fans plus strockrocks and her friends and not have to pay for a PSL and a couple hundred bucks for seats and parking just to enjoy watching a game I can see better on a big screen than I can at SF.
The food is better, the drinks are cheaper and the company is just s crazy as it would be at SF. If this team turns itself around the way I believe they can then this is gonna be a great year to watch some Bears football. Screw the Broncos. I want to see the other Blue and Orange team in a SB this year.
If all goes well you may get to see them both. Broncos and Bears, Blue and Orange,..... Yeah we owe Peyton one for the last time we got there. I would like to see that.
Some great observations. We were this close to making the playoffs last year and it wasn't just that blown coverage in the Packer game that did it. Trestman made some rookie coach mistakes such as playing Cutler for so long in the Lions games before he was 100% healed and a few other offensive game plans that were less than stellar. So we move on.
With as much of an improvement as Cutler and that entire offense made in just one year I can only imagine what more they can do by adding some new wrinkles and becoming even less predictable. Knowing Trestman that was a pretty pared down version of what his offense is like. But just as important is his willingness to discard what won't work in favor of what does. There's no Mike Martz level ego at work here or a pure bull shit artist like Tice who had no idea wtf he was doing but liked us all to think he did. It's a new day.
Points may be a little harder to come by this year but what I see is an offense that will score more consistently. More TD ending drives and fewer FG ending drives. This team has far better scorers than I've ever seen before. For the first time in probably 50 years or more we can score 30 points or more a game and win with that as opposed to having keep teams under 10 points a game to get to the playoffs.
As far as the Houston thing goes he's also gonna benefit my having guys like Ratliff and Sutton playing next to him and Allen across from him. These guys will all see more one on one blocking because they can't double team them all every pass play. That left side of the DL should be far better this year.
Fuller is going to be a key addition. With teams playing the nickel more and more a good 3rd starting caliber CB will become the norm. I think the Bears may be ahead of the game for a change by picking up Fuller.
Toughness of defense. Allen and Houston I think both bring it. Herring the LB coach I believe is instilling it in the young LB's. Our CB's, Peanut and Jennings, are already two of the better tacklers against the run and show toughness, Fuller is suppose to be fearless against the run from his draft write ups. I forgot where I read it but some of the new FA on Defense are mad at how bad the defense was last year and they were not even on the team then. I think the toughness and mentality of the Defense should improve drastically.
Lance Briggs in a shoulder sling is a "healthy lance briggs"? I quesiton that 1 of the 10, but the rest are pretty close.
I think you could have skipped the Marshal and Cutler thing was a bit redundant and you could have added another year of Forte getting you 1500+ in there somewhere.
I also think you could have added Brrrrrrrok Vareen in there w/Fuller as a freshening of the DB core.
Any recent updates on the Brace. It was mentioned before the draft but I presume by now he is out of the brace and building strength up for the season. As long as he is healed Lance will have himself in shape.
Briggs stated he was going to be playing the season in a shoulder sling, unless he's said differently that's the last I heard about it.
Ric is right, it has been reportd that he will be wearing the thing throughout the season. I also wondered about the Lance Briggs cooment, but hey, what the hell.
Briggs will give it all he's got because he wants a ring and if he doesn't get one this year look for him to want to return for another. Both he and Peanut are one year play for pay plans now and both want a ring before they hang it up. They're gonna be playing their asses off this year hoping to get one and if not to convince Emery that they still have one more good year left in them. Watch.
I agree, Tillman came back for relatively cheap this year and time will tell where Briggs is at. They have said they want to retire at the same time so this year should bring out the best in them for their quest for the ring.
