IMO the Bears must resign Cutler unless he makes outrageous demands. Beyond that, I would consider all options open. Are we already forgetting that they drafted McClellin in the first round? That's why, if there is a blue-chip DE to replace Peppers on the 2014 FA market, I'd trade any of those guys you mentioned to get enough cap space to make the winning offer. Bottom line: If you don't have a pass rush, you are screwed, and i don't see where it is coming from.

Is 80 million too much? It is a tough one for me to swallow. We definitely need to invest in DL and that is not going to lock up a big chunk.

Emery has also mentioned that he would like to draft a QB every year

The way to think about this is "How much would some other team be willing to offer to him?"

    check this...

From this ,it is highly unlikely anybody is going to offer him $80M. So, if he demands $80M, I'd say, "See if you can find a buyer and come back when you are serious." Well, I'd say it more diplomatically, but that's the idea. If he wants to stay with the Bears, he will ask them to match or beat the offer. The job of our GM is to resign Cutler at close to his market value. That's how we should judge Emery.

I'd like to see a contract that includes incentives. Something that would reward "Good Jay" and not reward "Bad Jay" - maybe give him the ol' electric cattle prod up his nether regions for "Bad Jay" performances. :D

Pay him a bonus for reducing his turnovers.

Agree. I would also like to see us start drafting qb's. I think one of the factors preventing a major improvement in Jays performance is no competition. We can't afford two first string qb's, but a challenger with upside would have Jay looking over his shoulder. Mccown is not competition. Your suggestion of incentives works similarly.

Someone I will bet trestman has his eye on is alex hall, Hall brings with him 62 career tackles and 24 sacks in just under two seasons with the Blue Bombers and when he is not getting at the quarterback, he is often attracting double teams from opposing offensive lines. And the blue bombers are 2-12 team. He was just traded to sask, but all reports say he is going to the NFL next year. Cameron wake like guy.
