Bears injury update for Tuesday, Aug. 6
    Tuesday, August 6, 2013 10:24 a.m. CDT
Julius Peppers is absent from practice today. He missed yesterday, but was at the field. He had hamstring tightness at Saturday night's practice. Earl Bennett (potential concussion) is also not present.
Matt Forte is taking the day off. Stephen Paea is back in team drills after being limited yesterday with hip tightness.
We should get full updates from the team at the end of practice.

just be glad i'm not DB, then i'd demand you all agree w/me since i am the one posting and therefore the most knowledgable

Cutler is getting killed out ther, conte got him, melton and Shea got him, and that's just the int's, not including the batted balls.

right side of the OL still having issues, not happy to hear that, I don't think it matters if it's Brown or Long at this point. Again 1x1's Long just kills guys, but once he lines up he's the one getting killed...you can have all the athletism in the world, but if you don't know what's going on it's pointless.

The difference this season I think is instead of coach beaming with pride over our D, the Bears have a coach that can mold, shape, and correct the offense. We already know the D can get it done hopefully Trestman can bring the offense along to match going against a tough D all camp.

Hopefully, the right side of the OL is learning from the mistakes. Defense usually wins the early camp battles, I hope it evens out a bit as time passes.

I would guess both depending on the strength of the formation. Can't say for sure though.

Paea and Wootton/Shea from what I have been hearing, but Grizz might well be right and it might depend.

ZZ: Frey w/another int on another batted ball

Biggs: Bennett still being evaluated for a concussion

Biggs: Peppers excused from practice and Forte was given the day off.

ZZ: Kromer says the DL is not to put the arms up and bat balls
ZZ Kromer says that the goal is to make Cutler as uncomfortable as possible

**What? how is not allowing the DL to put their arms up part of making Cutler uncomfortable?
Talking about Bears on the Score: about the OL, said Scott or Britton could fight for the starting RT side of Webb doesn't solidify it. Said the DL didn't listen about not batting balls, but they are also instructed to not do a full rush either.

Z, the D was told not to bat them at the lines, so take it w/a grain of salt.
Score said that Weems was given a ton of oppertunites to get on O today, and struggled b/c he's so little, but he is a huge contributor on ST's and has the "mean gene" so it will be interesting if he can make the squad.

Yeah I read what you posted up there. It makes no sense to me to limit batting balls if they want to make Cutty as uncomfortable as possible.

Yep, but that's also why it's not to concerning. they said something along the lines of b/c the DL isn't able to rush the passer fully it doesn't allow the passing lanes to open properly so they didn't want them batting the ball down...but if the D isn't allowed to do that what the hell are they supposed to do to help this O develop?

Now on to the who's practicing portion of the recap.
Matt Forte was held out of practice, for what appeared to be nothing more than a veterans rest day. Tackle Jonathan Scott was out after practicing yesterday. Starting left tackle Jermon Bushrod is back participating in team drills.
Middle linebacker D.J. Williams remains in a walking boot.
Julius Peppers was excused from practice today, but he did have some hamstring tightness the last couple days. Earl Bennett (concussion) was also not at practice.
For some good info on concussions, this is from WCG member akn, who dropped this yesterday in the practice recap thread.
We would need more specific information to make any assumptions about hightened susceptibility.
For example, dizziness (of the virtigo/lightheadedness kind) is the 2nd most common symptom of concussions (following headache), so it doesn't say much. We don't know if he is experiencing this dizziness at rest (which would be discouraging after 2 days) or when they have him do some light activity (which is normal for recovery after 2 days). Over 85% of concussions resolve in 7-10 days. And while the balance thing is a pretty specific indicator of a (bad) concussion, it isn't very sensitive.
The only clear evidence that speaks towards Bennett's heightened susceptibility are his previous concussions, but that is oversimplifying things. Yes, a history of multiple concussions makes it more likely to get concussed again, but that is a pretty non-specific predictor. If that's all we went by, then you'd have to more worried about Cutler than Bennett. There are in fact several other factors that come into play, such as taking longer and longer to recover from successive concussions (I don't remember how long Bennett took in the past), or smaller and smaller impacts causing the concussions, or whether the player has a previous history of psych or neuro disorders, etc.
Now on to some practice highlights via Twitter.

    — Michael C. Wright (@mikecwright) August 6, 2013
#Bears OC/OL coach Aaron Kromer says defensive linemen are not supposed to deflect passes in practice because OL can't cut them.
    — Jeff Dickerson (@ESPNChiBears) August 6, 2013
For those wondering, this is common place in the NFL, and every other level of football. You don't want your o-line to cut your own d-line. Another no-no for defensive linemen, is getting in front of a throwing QB. You don't want the QB's follow through to hit a defenders helmet or shoulder pad.
Aaron Kromer: "We're trying to keep Jay Cutler uncomfortable (in practice)."

espn talking w/Dickerson about the camp. Said he's not sure who's going to make the last WR spot, said it could be Weems, or it could be Wilson, but said Wilson is not built to help on ST's and that will hurt him, and siad he didn't think he would clear waivers.
Said Long got blown up today on a switch and said if he keeps missing that it's going to be dangerous for whoever is QB in this first pre season game. Said Paea was blowing up Slauson.

It's training camp, and everybody has to get their practice in. If the passing lanes don't get open, the QB and the receivers still need to work on timing. If the D bats the ball down, only the D is getting any practice.
