Hey before I get this started give love and credit to where it's due, Hub(love him or hate him) has a great Bears info site, and follows other teams as well, and has some fantasy info, really should check it out. Windycitygridiron is also a great place for Bears news, and if you are a twitterer you really should be following zachzaidman, john mullins, brad biggs, and hub arkush and lawrence holmes...at the minimal. and don't forget to check out espn.com/chicago and goto the bears secction to get the tweets from their guys.

Julius Peppers is absent from practice again; he was excused yesterday. Kyle Moore filled in at defensive end. Expect to see a lot of him and Shea McClellin on Friday night, as Corey Wootton has ice on his lower right leg.
Free safety Chris Conte is not participating in team drills - Craig Steltz took his spot next to Major Wright with the top defense.
Tackle Jonathan Scott (knee) remains out. Earl Bennett is present for the first time since Saturday, but he is being treated for a concussion. Bennett is not practicing and won't play in Friday's preseason opener.

with Hayden out... and Frey likely to replace him... can Hardin play CB in a pinch? I assume they'll look to pick up another veteran CB tho... if there are any worth picking up...

Hayden was a vet, and he will be missed. He was brought back for another season for a reason. Hoke must have felt comfortable with him as the nickel. Frey might be ready, but the coaches wanted a vet back there.

The Chicago Bears had another 9am practice this morning, so we have another lunchtime recap. Enjoy, and what's for lunch?

A lot was made the last couple of days about the defensive line batting down passes, and how that's something they shouldn't be doing. I touched on it yesterday, but in case you missed it, I'll hit on it again.
On game day, the offensive line will be cutting down the defenders at the line of scrimmage, but in practice you never cut your teammates. It's a safety issue. Cutting the defensive line will allow clearer passing lanes for the quarterback to see through.
One other no-no in practice is even getting too close to a QB when he's throwing. Pass rushers usually run by the QB, being sure to avoid his follow through. During games you always see a QB hitting his hand on a helmet, or shoulder pad after he releases the ball. The last thing you'd want to see happen to your starting QB break a finger on his throwing hand during the team portion of practice.
Here are the players that didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.LB - D.J. Williams (calf strain)
WR - Earl Bennett has a concussion and will not play on Friday against Carolina.
    OT - Jonathan Scott (knee)
    DE - Julius Peppers (excused)
CB/NB - Kelvin Hayden is out for the year with a torn hamstring. This is a tough loss as Hayden was the starting nickle, and he was the primary back up at corner.

Chris Conte, Henry Melton, and Jermon Bushrod were a bit limited today.

Mullins: james brown is pretty ensconced at no1(think he got auto corrected and ment entrenched) Long is still a work in progress in pass protection

ZZ: melton shaken up and watching practice

Seems at least through camp this point in camp that Brown is the RG. Going back to my point doesn't matter how much of a freak that Long is, if he doesn't know how to play(next to no college experience) then he cannot be on the field making positive impact.

Good to see the team is telling the players to not get hurt, Conte felt tightness and they told him to hold off. Melton a little shaken up, told him to take a seat. Good b/c this team cannot afford to lose starters like GB is.

The Hayden injury is actually a blessing. I'd like to see Frey and Hardin on the field more. Let those guys carve out a niche on defense.

Hearing that Brown is holding down that RG is pretty awesome news. I mean to get him from the UDFA scrap pile and have him turn into a starter, is just tits.

Well Mr D, much like Marquese, personal issues kept him from getting drafted, he was expected to get taken in the 2nd or 3rd last year.

Btw ESPN just had an awesome interview w/Emery. Don't agree w/his picks, but I love hearing this guy talk. They didn't throw a ton of softballs at him and he answered all of them w/tact that you would expect from a professional business man. JA was a douche and responded to the slightest adversity in a douche fashion. Emery is a joy to listen to in comparison.

Failing that, ESPN will (probably) make today's Waddle and Silvy show replay available later tonight.

    Bears Training-Camp Notebook: August 7
    By KEVIN FISHBAIN - kfishbain@shawmedia.com - Wednesday, August 7, 2013 5:09 p.m. CDT
Expect to spend your Friday evening getting to know the second-, third- and fourth-string Bears when they open up the preseason in Carolina.
In addition to saying that Jay Cutler will play a “very, very limited” amount, Marc Trestman said that the starters — if they play — will play “minimally.” The injuries have piled up for the Bears since putting on the pads, and Kelvin Hayden was the latest victim with a season-ending hamstring injury.
Here’s a look at the other notes from Wednesday’s practice:
Injury update: Earl Bennett officially has a concussion. He was back on the practice field Wednesday for the first time since Saturday, but did not participate and won’t play on Friday night in Carolina. Julius Peppers remained excused from practice. Corey Wootton left practice with tightness in his calf and Chris Conte had tightness in his hamstring. Tackle Jonathan Scott is still out with a knee injury. Henry Melton left practice as well after knocking knees, but it was nothing serious.
More Britton: Jermon Bushrod has returned to full team drills, but still may not play at all on Friday night, giving more opportunities to Eben Britton to impress. In addition to likely being the backup left tackle, keep an eye on Britton getting some time on the right side, as the staff is clearly pleased with his work thus far. “At this point I can say he’s definitely involved in being part of this roster – on a week-to-week basis, on a week-to-week basis. The 46,” said Trestman, referring to the 46 dressed players on game days.
Mixing up the ‘D’: We saw a new look on Tuesday when Melton rushed from a standing position. Shea McClellin did that as well in a blitz package, stacked with linebackers Lance Briggs and James Anderson, another example of Mel Tucker throwing some wrinkles into the defense.
Quick hits: The biggest pass play of the day came on a bullet from Josh McCown to Fendi Onobun. … Both Eric Weems and Joe Anderson took reps with the first-team receivers in Bennett’s absence. ... James Brown continues to take the majority of reps at right guard. There’s a long way to go until Week One, and first-rounder Kyle Long is still expected to be the starter, but he is far from winning the job outright.

Trestman mixes up Bears practice in prep for season
    By KEVIN FISHBAIN - kfishbain@shawmedia.com - Wednesday, August 7, 2013 4:24 p.m. CDT
BOURBONNAIS — The Bears’ final practice as a whole had a different look than what we’ve seen in the Marc Trestman era, even though it began with a “déjà vu all over again” moment. On the first play, Jay Cutler’s pass got batted at the line and intercepted, which happened three times the previous day.
After that, though, the offense settled down, as Marc Trestman got the team ready for the regular season in what he dubbed the “most important practice of the year.”
“We did everything from the sideline today — there were no scripts or preparation for the players,” he explained. “We gave the coaches and the players to work situational football like it would be in the game.”
The format allowed the team to get used to a packed sideline, which they will experience with 90 players in the first couple preseason games. It also wasn’t a practice designed necessarily for Friday night’s preseason opener in Carolina, Trestman said, but for the whole 2013 campaign.
“We weren’t practicing to get ready for the game, we were practicing to get ready for the season,” he said. “The difference is, they weren’t getting coaching on the field. You didn’t feel the energy that comes with coaches moving them along, they had to do it on their own.
“It’s a great exercise. … Everybody needs to feel that dynamic and we try to get them a head start. Friday night should come easier to all of us.”
We had become accustomed to the vocal coaches on staff, including Trestman, motivating players during the team drills from the field, but on Wednesday it was done from the sideline. The Bears also worked heavily on special teams, with Trestman saying they put an emphasis on the extra practice in transitioning on and off the field.
There were still several pre-snap penalties on both sides of the ball, and Trestman made it clear that those are not only focal points, but also team penalties.
“If one or two guys are jumping offsides, the team isn’t focused. … If it’s one or two of us, it’s all of us. We’ve got to continue to focus in and lock in to that area.”

Team seems very high on Britton....is he the future RT? Is that why the Webb shut down his tweeter account?

Love hearing Joe Anderson getting reps w/the 1's. the guy has a great back story and seems very down to earth and humble, hard not to want the guy to succeed. I can take or leave Weems, but would prefer to leave him, but I think it shows that Williams isn't ready for prime time as I haven't heard much of him all week w/the 1's.

Analysts keep saying Long is going to be the starting RG, but he's got to vastly improve, and how do you keep Brown motivated by handing the job to the guy he's clearly outplaying? Not to say he won't get a lot of playing time, I go back to the fact that trestman plans on running multiple OL, he said possibly 6, could it be Brown/Long or Webb/Britton? Maybe it ends up being both since Britton has come on lately.

When does one of them start taking reps at LG then? If those two could be the starting guards, that line will look much more solid for the future. I hope Long stays in Friday a long time.

Seeing DJ Williams miss so much of training camp is discouraging. We picked up a veteran player to contribute this year.
