Here's something that's interesting... When he was with the cowboys and dolphins, they both ran the 3-4.

Shark...my exact thoughts...DeMarcus Ware supposedly loved the guy. I think Tucker might employ some 3-4 stuff this year...not necessarily a base, but the hybrid we've all been talking about.

Yeah, stands to reason as he was also a "D" line coach.

On paper, this looks like a great hire. Hopefully, it turns out to be such come next season, and beyond. I'm definitely intrigued by his 3-4 experience and how the LB will play under his tutelage this year.

Not necessarily a 3-4 guy, per se. His Syracuse years, I think, tell the most about his coaching style. In Dallas and Miami he was brought in to existing systems and then was promoted because of bosses being fired.

Anyway, from what I understand he is a fundamentals guy, which our young LB's certainly need. Good footwork, stay in your gap, tackle through the ball while wrapping up. I can live with that.

Tucker is still calling the shots.

He was also a TE coach, and Jason Witten said he helped him a lot. I'm just glad no one's upset over not getting Singletary, who lost his LB coaching duties last year.

The last few years he was the head coach at Connecticut, in the American Athletic Conference. The defense was pathetic and the team was 3-9 this year and 5 wins the year before that. The defense pretty much gave up 30-60+ points a game much of the season. Hopefully he'll bring pixie dust and do better in Chicago in the NFL.
Man, I'm trying to trust Marc Trestman on the defense. He says Mel Tucker is good, and there must be something with this AAC guy that he feels is good too. We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Say it outloud JABF, he was HC at Conneticut om tje AAC; think the guy had any players there? Why are you looking at his college track record and not his pro one? Read what Bearstuff said about him, and Henry also.

Tucker was never going to be fired when so many inj's hampred anyones ability to rationally look on tape and judge what he was trying to do.

I'm just watching the team moves and holding judgement until I see the team play next season. In all honesty, the guy could be a guru.

The only reason the Connecticut info means anything, is that this is his most recent work. In particular I was curious about his defense there. Yes, he had ACC talent, so that's certainly mitigating, but keep in mind he was facing ACC talent too. I figure that all evens out. Hey, I hope he's a true guru, pixie dust and all - and can help rebuild the LB corps for us.

Somebody in the thread said he could be a DC for us if Mel fails. I don't know what to think at this point. We do need somebody as the position coach to help fix the LB's. Same could be said for the DL. I'm just hoping Emery/Trestman have the gears to fix the defense. Maybe this guy can help.

I wouldn't base much off his time at UCONN as far as wins and losses goes, that place is in the middle of no where and is a basketball school. Tough getting recruits to go there, and they were worse after they fired him...either way the defense improved with him there. They were actually 2nd in the AAC in 2012...his last full season there. The guy can coach...he's very well respected here in the North East.

He seems to keep getting fired after two years. IDK, I don't have any personal knowledge of him. Just hope he can come in and do the job. i was hoping with someone with a more accredited resume, but I have no problem with him. Just want to see some actual achievement.
