Andre Johnson spent months away from the team, and ultimately decided his future is not with the Houston Texans.

The 33-year-old wide receiver requested a trade and will not report to training camp after skipping offseason workouts and minicamp, NFL Network reported Thursday.

Johnson has three years and $31.5 million in base salary left on his contract but does not want to be part of another rebuilding project. The Texans are coming off a 2-14 season.

NFL Network reported four teams expressed interest in trading for Johnson.

Johnson was subject to a $70,000 fine and foreits a $1 million workout bonus by not taking part in workouts and team activities.

“Right now, that's all that he can do,” Johnson's adviser and uncle Andre Melton told the Houston Chronicle before minicamp. “We've done what we can do, so we're just sitting there waiting.”

In May, Johnson questioned if he wanted to continue his career in Houston.

“Nobody's been here as long as I have,” he said. “You just kind of look at things; I've been thinking about things this offseason. And I just kind of wonder sometimes, is this still the place for me?"

Isn't it nice to be a fan of a team that players want to come to play on for a change.

In my current just woken up state, not sure I see Chicago or Bears anywhere in that..... I don't disagree that players want to come here, just not sure Johnson is one of them.

Even if he did, and I would love to have him here (imagine a three man core of Marshall, Johnson and AJ) I think our payroll is stretched to the max.

Unless my years of playing Madden have lied to me, the trading team always picks up the bonus so the Bears would only be responsible for the base.....

    Do they have $10.5M open?

And what would we have to trade for him.... I imagine at least a first rounder if not a pretty good player packaged in as well.

Sorry for him. Good player, probably past his prime, on a team that needs lots to get back into relevancy. They won't trade him unless he becomes a distraction....which isn't his nature.

It's so nice when our #1 talks like this from Marshall’s perspective, it was a “career-saving” move. Well it's obvious we know where our #1 receiver's heart and head is at with this team and yes it's awesome. With his personality we now see him spreading this effect throughout the team especially with the receiving core of Alshon and Marquess. It looks like Jared on the other side ball has evidence of same thought pattern. Mental state is every bit of shared belief and is crucial to the success of any team at any level Emery and Trest understand this very well.

Feel bad for Andre that team is in complete rebuild mode, and he's in win now mode.

No way someone gives a 1st for a 30+ yr old WR, no matter how great they are, maybe a 3rd, and/or a player, but not sure that trade would make since for the Texans.

Bears don't have room on the depth chart for him, they have their 1 and 2, their 3rd option is Forte, and then they have Bennett and Wilson.

Wake up Benji. You're in the Rival Teams Forum. This has nothing to do with the Bears other than my comment about how nice it is having players trying to get "into" rather than "out of" Chicago.

I'm not mounting a campaign for us to sign a 33 year old WR with a $31.5 mil contract here. It just news. Nothing more and nothing less guys.
