Interesting read not to different then some discussion in here. I wish they would have talked more on other options the article says it would be interesting if Donald, Gilbert, Dix, and Pryor are available at 14 and what Emery would value. Then it jumps to Safety, wish it would have discussed the other options more,

been saying that for awhile, just b/c the team is staying 4-3 base, doesn't mean 4-3 cover 2 w/a traditional 3 tech. It very well could, but anyone talking about what the team actually NEEDS is strictly guessing b/c we don't know what the team will want at DT or S or LB.

I'm not sure that is anything new to any of us. If the schene didn't dictate the pick, there would be something wrong.

You mean like...drafting a 1st round 245 lb, 3-4 OLB to play DE in a 4-3 was a bad plan?
    You don't say.........

Well of course it does which is why certain player like Nix and Jernigan would fall farther back on their board as would CBs who are primarily cover corners and don't play in run support well. That's almost like saying that if the sky is blue the sun must be shining.

The scheme and lack of depth dictates needs at DT, S, CB and MLB. What else is new? THIS is one great reason for why they need to move the draft up a couple of weeks. Sportswriters and draftniks are running out of things to write about or say so it's all nothing but the same recycled garbage.

I have an idea for a thread and I think I'll work on that.

While I agree that we may see less cover 2 and it may not be a staple any more of our defense if we have a 4 man front we will still be looking for a traditional 3 tech. That's not a cover 2 staple its a 4 man front staple. You need a strong inside pass rush to allow your ends to be more successful coming off the edge.

I'm quoting myself here as posted in a different thread but I think some of the factors here bear some thought. Specifically the one that reverses the idea that we should spend a prime pick on a less than prime player. I just highlighted that which I'm basing this opinion on.

I thought the same thing. We've been down this road before. Pound square peg into round hole no matter how crazy it looks.

Grizz but not every 4 man front uses a classic 3 tech, its not a 4 man front staple. You can get a strong pass rush using other options, via blitzes and line stunts, as pointed out before both Minny and the Jags have used larger DT's then the "traditional 3 tech" and I'm sure if I wanted to I could find more.
