Now, finally, the Bears stand with their (initial) 53-man roster.

I say "initial" because once the waiver period ends, there could be even more adds and drops, but from this point on, the roster can't expand beyond 53. With that, here are the 53 men on the initial roster.

    QB: Cutler, McCown (2)
    RB: Forte, Bush, Ford (3)
    FB: Fiammetta (1)
    TE: Bennett, Maneri, Adams (3)
WR: Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Anderson, Wilson, Weems (6)
OL: Bushrod, Slauson, Garza, Long, Mills, Scott, Britton, Brown, Boggs (9)
DL: Peppers, Melton, Paea, Wootoon, McClellin, Collins, Minter, Washington, Ozougwu (9)
LB: Briggs, Williams, Anderson, Bostic, Greene, Costanzo (6)
CB: Tillman, Jennings, Bowman, Frey, McManis, Wilson (6)
S: Wright, Conte, Steltz, Walters (4)
ST: Gould, Podlesh, Mannelly, Hester (4)

Surprises? Disappointments? Worries? Let's hear your comments.

Fun fact: Only 1 OL from the Angelo era (Garza) is on the Bears' final roster. ^^

I don't get why Weems is on the roster and I think we lack quality depth in the secondary.

    Here are some thoughts:

    - Glad the Bears kept 2 QBs instead of 3.
    - Really like our new offensive line.
    - I'm not sure if Costanzo is really a better choice than Thomas.
    - Ozougwu shouldn't be on the final roster! A 6' 2'' DE, really?!
    - Not a fan of keeping Weems and waiving Tolliver.
    - Too bad Hester is still a Bear.
    - I'm worried about our safeties. If either Wright or Conte goes down we'll have serious problems with the secondary.

    1) I will be stunned if this is the week 1 roster
    2) next year the JA era of the OL will be over, and some beat guys have suggested that it might be by the bye week this year(Garza gets benched Slauson moves to C and Brown plays LG).
    3) Weems and Costanzo are here on their ST ability, BC was the ST captain in PS and Weems, well he's the backup for Hester, but w/keeping Ford I would have preferred them cut Weems and keept Tolliver/Allen or a S...could still happen though.
    4) Cutler and nothing if he goes down...not a good way to continue to trot out a game day roster
    5) We carried 6 S's last year, I would guess at least 1 more gets brought on board after all the teams have made cuts.

Funny, Kellen Davis and Webb, Lance Louis were starters last year, this year they were cut from three different teams. Carimi is again a backup, Scott is a backup, spaeth is back in Pitt and likely to land in IR. This was our O last year, gone, gone, backup backup backup/IR.

I'm a bit worried about only having 2 QB's..Cutler seems to have a nasty habit of getting injured halfway through the season and I dont think McCown would do a good job,Palmer would have been a better IMO.

I wouldn't be shocked if we got another pass-catching TE once the waiver wire opens.

We have "only 2 QBs" in name only. Relax. Palmer will be back in a heartbeat should the need arise. There was no point to protect a guy with a roster spot that is in no danger of being signed away by another team.

Are there any TEs on the market worth looking at?

So, who gets cut with us claiming Bass? Ozougwu would make sense from a positional standpoint, I guess, but the swap seems very lateral. If it were me, I'd cut Scott or Boggs, but who knows? I would have preferred a DT, but I won't argue with them grabbing the most talented players in the pool regardless of position.

The Bears know Palmer is back here in a heartbeat if needed. And frankly, he's about as good as anyone out there for a 3rd stringer, now that Blanchard is not available. Heck, if we get down to QB #3, we're probably screwed anyway.

I guess Raidas Nation really liked David Bass. He played at over 270 lbs his last two years of college, so it would be nice if he could bulk up a bit and eventually be a gameday DE/UT depth player.

I understand Palmer is available and most likely not going anywhere. My contention is that we need a #2, not possible #3. They picked up Jerrod Johnson for the PS. That guy sounds like an interception machine, fine for the PS but I don't see a future developing him. Pay Palmer (or ?) some money and replace #2 McCown in the near future.

Know nothing personally but Raiders fans (on their WCG equivalent site) said he had a solid preseason and were upset he and Wilson were cut (both '13 draft picks). Sounds like they were expecting him to definitely be re-signed to their PS but Emery scooped him up on waivers instead. I figure Bass was a player Phil had his eye on in the late draft.
