If anything, Wooten can play at his real position, and Shea may see some time on the bench. I feel bad for the guy (Shea) but he just isn't NFL material.

Well, he certainly hasn't helped his cause. That's for sure.

We will still see Shea on a rotation but I would be willing to wager that Wootten will come out on fire now that he can get back to DE.

Still you have to wonder about the circumstance he left Dallas under.

Reality is that we need him to play lights out, and he needs to play well also if he wants to play again next year.

While it may be a desperate move on our part, Jay needs to play well or he will not demand attention from several teams.

    Can he play on Monday?

I thought he was still a minimum of a few weeks away from being able to play. Not sure if that's just a rumor. If true though, it shows how desperate we are.

What is a 1-year contract? I assume it is until the end of this season.

Well, I never thought it would happen but it did.

It may turn out to be a total flop but this move was the one shot we had left to salvage the season defensively. At least this (once JR actually plays) gets Wooton back to his proper position at DE with Bass being the main backup. Pretty much ends the Shea-as-a-3down-DE nonsense.

Well, what do you want him to do? I want to dunk a basketball but NO amount of hard work, training, practicing is ever going to change the fact that I just won't ever accomplish that. It's not his fault he was drafted in the first round. He probably feels totally defeated at this point; what do you want him to do?? I'm not arguing with you; what would you do if you were Shea at this point? He can't bulk up, his speed is good; what are his options? I don't see any!

Hate to say it, but Stock is right. Shea CAN'T PLAY DE (beyond maybe a pure 3rd-and-long rusher only). Either he he makes the conversion to SAM--no matter what Biggs says--or I see no future for him here barring an unlikely switch to a 3-4.

Props to Phil for doing something. Sucks that he won't be ready for several weeks.

So here's the deal why he's no longer in Dallas.
    1) He didn't like JJ, they actually almost came to blows in the locker room.
    2) The Cowboy's felt he was dogging his injury
    3) B/c Jones is a horrible GM they are in cap hell and cannot afford him, escpecially if he's not playing.
    4) most really thought he wasn't going to be able to play this year. He actually wasn't medically cleared until after he was cut.

It's a gamble, he might not be healthy, but he's clearly an upgrade(if he can play) over what we have, and it's a necessary risk.

Since we are half way through the season, does paying a player a 'one year contract' the same as like Anderson or DJ Williams, etc? Or is it prorated, like you get half because there isn't a full year to play?

I'm a teacher and sign a contract each year. I would love to teach from Feb-June and call it a year, while still getting my one year pay...

Good move, at least we're not sitting on our hands hoping against hope.

It was the only shot we had left to salvage the season defensively. It may flop but it was the only thing left to do short of packing in the season. If/when he can play, Ratliff upgrades two positions and gives this D a chance to be competitive.

He should be able to bulk up. Hard work in the Gym and enough of the right foods will bulk almost anyone up. There are exceptions, but I'm willing to bet he isn't one of them. And I'm not arguing either or even saying that ther IS anything he can do. All I am saying is that he isn't helping his cause in terms on sticking on an NFL team.

The Cowboys may take steps to stop the signing. Something about how he left the Cowboys.

Listening to Cowboy fans, they were relieved when they cut him. I have a feeling he’ll be just as useless for the Bears.
