he's nothing special guys, but you aren't finding special on the streets or on another teams PS, special DT's aren't found there. But he'll due just fine, if he's healthy, he's definately better then Wootton at DT and Shea at DE.

Don't think they can. Once he is cut, they have no say.

I think he had packed it in. He didn't want to play for Jerry. Will he want to play for Tucker? I sure hope he doesn't decide to go through his whole life like that. If he doesn't agree with the coach, he just doesn't play hard.

The bears will get everything that Ratliff has left...as good, or as bad as that may be. As Biggs said, Ratliff is here for playing time, in order to show he can still play and earn a new contract (here or elsewhere). I'm not expecting a miracle, but I do expect him to be a better DT than what we have outside of Paea.

Likely not til next week. A few days is too quick to get him into the action.

    From the Bears site:

While the Bears have not yet revealed when they expect him to return to action, Ratliff could eventually fill a major need at defensive tackle. Henry Melton and Nate Collins are out for the season with torn ACLs and Stephen Paea missed two games with a toe injury.

The Bears tried to overcome those losses by moving Corey Wootton inside from end, signing free-agent Landon Cohen and adding undrafted rookie Zach Minter to the rotation. But the line has struggled rushing the passer this season, producing only four of the Bears' NFL-low nine sacks.

I thought earlier in this thread someone said it would be 2-4 weeks.

JJ is a bonafide asshole I could go for pack before I could for the Cowboys, yes I was going for the vikes. At least this could make the Dec. 9th game a little interesting if we are out of playoff race by than.

I'm hoping for something like when we picked up Amobe Okoye a few years back, nice little increase in production from the position. Hoping. I do think he was sandbagging the Cowboys....still upset over not getting a long term deal last year & then getting injured. I'm thinking he will be ready to prove his worth.

What if we get a deal worked out with Melton and Ratliff (assuming he returns to very good form) at the end of the season, plus Collins looked like he could be productive. Then the DTs are Melton, Paea, Ratliff and Collins. That rotation could just let you focus on DE and CB in the draft/FA at least for 1 year, no?

Could be. Unless a stud DT was available. Then you might have to do it anyway.

Bears clear roster spot for Ratliff

With the expected signing Tuesday of veteran defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, the Chicago Bears cleared a roster spot at the position by waiving Zach Minter.

Minter looked better than garbage Cohen in the limited times I saw him and I don't know why we clear room for our thinnest position by removing another player from that very position.

Considering that Ratliff might not be ready to play for a couple of weeks it makes even less sense.

The only reason I think that it does make sense is because you might not want to cut another position because most of them are core STs players. But I'm with you, why not cut Weems and let Earl Bennett earn a little of his pay check by being on all 4 phases?
