I'm glad to see the Bears interested in Michael Bennett, if we get him we knock out 2 positions needed and will give more flexibility going forward with the rest of the positions to be filled.

Bears appear to be strong playas for Michael Bennett. Not sure it would be a surprise but definitely an accomplishment.

that would be a decent sign for us, just what we need, but hes no superstar so 5 or 6 mil per year is enough

No guarantees it will come to fruition but I'm glad Emery sees the issue clearly and is pursuing a plan to address it. The Bears have virtually nothing at DE right now. Wootton is a FA (may/may not be back) and he isn't even even cleared to practice post-surgery yet. Peppers is in severe decline and will almost assuredly be a cap casualty. Everyone else on the roster is a depth player at best. The draft is weak for DE and its looking like the only one worth the 14th pick is Clowney who'll be long gone by then. If there ever was a situation where "free agency is for filling major holes", this is it.

Emery pretty much HAS TO sign a DE. And Bennett offers the additional benefit of being able to give you snaps inside as well. I'm not saying he's JJ Watt or anything, but he looks like the best available option we have.

Hate to burst your bubble my friend but he's gonna get well more than that no matter where he ends up.

He is going to get well over that. Good question though on his worth, I been followiing twitter for news and the Vikings gave there DE 5 yr $42 million with $20 million guaranteed. There were rumors the Vikes were in the Johnson chase but they must have decided either they did not want either Johnson or Bennett or were not going to land either so they jacked up the price for sure

The Vikes gave over $8m a yr for Griffin. 5 yrs at 42.5MM. Supposedly SeaHawks cleared up $12MM with there cuts. Can not say how much of it they offered Bennett but he is Probably going to get $9 to 10MM a yr or upward based on Griffin deal. Hope I am wrong and he is less expensive but looking more and more like if we get Bennett we will be putting Peppers Money (saving from releasing Pep) to Bennett and eating the Dead Cap Money. We need a DE and bent over the proverbial Barrel.

Bennett and Johnson are considered the top RDEs in FA and the overall market is much less soft than last year because the cap went up $7m/team. These guys are gonna get paid as BSBEARS said. It's going to take ~$8-10m/yr to land them, don't kid yourself. If Emery misses on these two (supposedly talking to both), then he's gonna have to sign a 2nd tier player who's more likely a LDE only type. He must sign a DE, like it or not, so take your medicine so to speak.

This is what happens when you whiff on key draft picks (Shea). You're stuck having to backfill major needs via FA and spending big bucks to do it. Pretty much the same situation last year with signing Bushrod after JA missed badly at OT on Chris Williams and Carimi. The FA market has a lot more cash sloshing around this year so don't expect any "bargains" in the higher end of the talent pool. Not gonna happen.

If Bennett is signed, Peppers will be released in a New York minute I would guess (with June 1 designation). There's your $10m in cap space right there with $4m more to add on June 1st.
