One catch for 13 yards in one season? Shocker.

Why the hell did we recently re-sign him then?

Emery cut Rosario, cut Bush, and is now (futilely) shopping Peppers. Why all these cap clearing moves NOW? Something seems really strange about this.

Yeah, looks like he's trying to save every single penny for something big. Jarius Byrd perhaps?

    Or...
some of our own FA's that Emery didn't think would garner interest ARE, in fact, garnering interest, and he's scrambling to try to keep them.

I agree with the first part, that's what it feels like. But Emery would be insane to pay $9-10m for Byrd when the DL is Swiss cheese. He needs to land a DE way way more than a big money FS.

I'm thinking there is an outside chance they COULD find interest in Peppers. OK, here me out. Peppers is MOST expensive to us alone. Yea, his salary for the year is high, but it's the PLUS the dead money combined that makes him so expensive, and the dead money stays here. A trade Partner would only be on the hook for his salary, which isn't really that high compared to what Bennett got.

Just thinking outside the box here. Furthermore, there seems to be several teams that need a DE, but there aren't that many on the market.

There is still 1 man in the NFL that we could get in trade for Pep. If he has learned to tie his own shoes now, I'd pull the trigger on the deal :D

Totally agree with you, pal. I'd rather have Michael Johnson than Byrd.

It really does and I'm trying to figure this out. I'm certain the Bears were going into this thing with multiple options (Plans A, B, C and maybe even a D); but something just seemed to happen all at once, like something happened that they were not expecting. Do you suppose some team called and offered up a trade for a DE that they really covet, so they are desperately trying to shop Peppers to see if they can salvage a draft pick that they are getting ready to give up?

    This just seems kinda crazy.

Seem like precursor moves, to me. Hopefully, freeing up enough money for a couple defensive additions already agreed to in principle tomorrow.
