WAIT A MINUTE - Emery says Bears will likely re-sign TE Rosario. The guy they signed a couple weeks ago, then cut a few days after that.

Bob, don't worry about it brudder. If that's the case, then it tells me they had to do some things to massage the cap a bit for the start of FA, then they go back and re-sign after they lock in contracts. It's just one of the goofy things teams have to do to stay within the rules.

Bears resolve Rosario's curious contract situation

Dante Rosario is back with the Chicago Bears, but it took two contracts in a little more than a week to get it done.

Rosario was re-signed Thursday to a one-year contract in a move the club has yet to announce. He was surprisingly released March 10, seven days after signing a one-year contract.

The Bears declined to divulge the reason behind the series of moves, but a source that has reviewed both contracts has come up with an explanation. The Bears signed Rosario to a minimum salary benefit contract (meaning his salary-cap figure is lower than his base salary, a provision in the collective bargaining agreement to encourage teams to use journeymen players instead of younger, cheaper alternatives) on March 3.

But because Rosario played on a minimum salary benefit contract in 2013 -- a contract the Bears inherited from the Dallas Cowboys when they acquired him via trade after final cuts in September -- he was not eligible to sign another contract with the Bears on March 3. Rules pertaining to minimum salary benefit deals prevent a player from signing another contract with his team until the start of the next league year.

The Bears also could not re-sign quarterback Josh McCown until after the start of the league year because he played with a MSB contract last season. It guaranteed McCown would enter the free-agent market. The same held true for Rosario, so the Bears were forced to release him.

Once the new league year opened, Rosario was eligible to re-sign with the Bears and that officially happened Thursday when he signed a one-year contract that, yes, includes a provision for the minimum salary benefit. Rosario is due to earn $855,000 this season and will count $570,000 vs. the salary cap. There is no guaranteed money. Last season, Rosario earned $715,000 and had a cap figure of $555,000.

The Bears traded their seventh-round draft pick for Rosario. Expect the team to seek to add more depth at the position. It could be a position the team monitors in the draft.

Did anyone else have a Mike McCaskey flashback while reading that? It seems like something dumb he would have done. lol. I'm glad they were able to correct it without penalty.
