If anyone would have predicted that the D would have been better than the O before this season, you would not have believed them.

I would have. I thought the O would take some time to come together, but the D would come out of the gates on fire.

I didn't think the D would be as good as it was last year, but I didn't think it would be worse then the O. I thought both would be in the teens; then again I didn't expect Peppers to look old as dirt(reporters are speculating that he's still battling a leg injury), that Melton and Collins would both be out of the year, that DJ Williams would miss all of pre season and then be out of the year before the bye week, and that Tillman would be battling a leg injury all season.

If you had told me, or anyone else before the season all that was going to happen they would have told you the D was going to suck balls.

I wouldn't have believed that I'm hoping that the D will gain some momentum and catch fire as opposed to the offense.

I wouldnt believe that Julius Peppers would only have a single sack heading into the halfway point of the season.

Having a D that low requires you to have O in the top 5. Not going to happen. I can't see this D stopping anyone people playing out of position and injuries, unless these coaches can produce miracles it's a rebuild time for the D. Sorry to say this year is closing in fast and BMarsh won't make the playoffs again.

I was torn between being in total denial, and having some "reality check" moments, when the Bears went from Angelo/Lovie to Emery/Trestman. But in my heart, I think I always knew this was a MAJOR rebuild of the Chicago Bears instead of simply tossing in some new players and building on a 10 win Lovie season. We had a major change of direction and a roster that had major problems and needs.

When we play our 1st game next season, the roster will have very few remaining players and coaches from the Angelo/Lovie era. Yes, it's a rebuild. Plain and simple. I think a lot of folks are still in denial of this fact. When the dust finally settles and we begin next season, about the only remaining guy from the Angelo/Lovie era will be Staley Da Bear.

The INJURY bug ... at least through the first 8 games.

Hopefully we bounce back as people come back online.

Bears D is 30th in the only stat that counts--point allowed.

well when your safety's cannot cover grandma on a walker, and your DL cannot create pressure it's going to give up points.

We are in a rebuild, plain and simple. The injuries on defense have hurt us for this year, and we could have been much more solid if we would have Melton, Collins, Briggs, Tillman, Peppers and I will say it, Urlacher all performing at last years levels.

Time to root for a win every week and enjoy the season, while at the same time realize we are not winning the Superbowl this year.

I wonder if Staley can play defense? He'd HAVE to be an upgrade over Pep & Shea :D

It was inevitable with the age of our D, that this was going to happen. We were lucky to extend their performance the last couple of years, but this is truly the end. I would imagine that Peppers, Peanut, Melton (unless fully recovered), DJ Williams, and maybe even Briggs will depart this offseason, and the D will be completely unrecognizable come the start of 2014. I just hope that the FO can perform the same resurrection on the D as they have managed on the O.
