The Bears rose in value but dropped slightly on Forbes' list of the world's 50 most valuable sports teams.

According to Forbes' data, the Bears are worth more than $1.2 billion, about a 5 percent increase from last year. But the team fell two spots on the list to 18.

For the second consecutive year, Real Madrid claimed the No. 1 spot, and European soccer teams took the top three positions. NFL teams made up 60 percent of the list, following last year's trend.

The Cubs and Bulls were the only other Chicago teams to crack the top 50, placing 21st and 37th, respectively.

You know the exact same thing happened to me this year too. I went from 300, 568, 089th to 3oo, 568, 097th. :4 14 1[1]: That's 8 spots but I don't think they were counting what was in my penny jar. :grumble:

Come on. Behind the Eagles, Jets, Texans, Redskins.

I can hack the Pats and Giants, successful big market teams. And the Cowboys, well they are just a laugh being the most valuable team. But the Chicago Bears are surely better than some of those teams I mentioned above.

Why exactly are the Cubs so valuable?

And why aren't the Clippers on the list. They are the one team that actually has a real value that isn't just a Forbes guess.

financial value and value that equates to wins are very seperate things. I don't know about now, but I believe the Cubs were only behind the Yankees in World brand; and I think only the Lakers Dallas and the Bears had world brands after that(although I could be missing teams).

Part of the problem is the complete misuse of the brand; Cuban said if he had bought the Cubs he said they would be worth 1billion once he used the brand to reach it's full value.

It takes things into account such as assets, including stadiums. Soldier Field is not worth nearly as much as some of the newer stadiums (Houston, NYJ/G, etc). That is probably one of the biggest factors as to why the Bears are not higher on the list, if someone were to say purchase the Bears from the McCaskeys, they would have to deal with the city and the Park District when it comes to Soldier Field, whereas other teams, they would essentially own the stadiums entirely.

Good call. That's one of the reasons Dallas is as high on the list as they are. JJ owns the Jones Mahal whereas the Bears own zip. Real estate has intrinsic value and aside from Halas Hall the Bears don't have any.
