BOURBONNAIS -- The Chicago Bears' defensive-line depth took another hit Monday when veteran end Turk McBride was lost for the season to a ruptured Achilles tendon, but the injury news could have been worse.

The Bears got a scare when Jermon Bushrod, their biggest free-agency addition, left practice early with what turned out to be only a mild calf strain.

Although his status is day-to-day, he was later seen entering the dining room wearing a walking boot.

"It's nothing crazy," said Bushrod, calling the boot precautionary.

Bushrod, the two-time Pro Bowl left tackle signed to help revamp the offensive line, came out after one brief team period with a bag of ice taped to the back of his right leg. He was replaced for the next period by Jonathan Scott.

McBride will be missed on a defensive line that earlier lost end Sedrick Ellis, who announced his retirement. Former Falcons defensive end Jamaal Anderson was signed to replace Ellis.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who will get occasional days off after arthroscopic hip surgery in January, was sidelined for the session at Olivet Nazarene University

Defensive end Cheta Ozougwu also was out with a hamstring injury. The training staff worked on Ozougwu's left leg during Sunday's practice.

Coach Marc Trestman is expected to address the injury situations after practice.

Crap Bushrod is too damn important.

Scott replaced him? I guess it is just camp so no reason to stir up a bees nest by putting long there, :)

Bushrod is day to day and said it's no biggie just precautionary. I wouldn't worry to much.

McBride hurts, but I think Washington might be able to step in to fill the depth his loss creates.

Thankfully no major players have gone down like other teams. I'm with you Ric. Golden opportunity for Washington to come in and get some serious playing time.

Turk was going to replace Izzy's versatility, so that sucks, but he's not irreplaceable.

The injury that is also bothering me is Marshalls hip. You hear the BS that he is finally 100% and then he seems to have more problems than he has had in the past. It has me concerned. Turk's injury also sucks... He was putting in some effort. I think Bushrod will be ok.

Marshal wasn't held out b/c of an injury today though, it was just a vet day. They apparently don't see a need to have him out there to much, and it gives the depth guys a chance to show what they have. It's two birds w/one stone. Save Marshal for the season and see what you have behind him.

I agree. The stars are lining up for Washington. This means he will at least get a great opportunity to go out and earn some time on the field. Better take it and run with it.

I certainly hope not. His best season coincided with the only really amazing season Suh had, making it very likely he was benefiting from the amazing play from the rest of the line. Besides, wasn't it Wooten that the Bears have been trying to hype up to fill his shoes? (granted, he's probably not going to get any DT time like Peppers, but with the Bears willing to use the NASCAR package, nothing should be surprising)

Lack of hitting has nothing to do with calf strains and knee issues.

Izzy didn't even have a decent season on D until he was 28, and Turk provided the same LE/UT versatility. He was going to be that ST mercenary and gameday depth filler.

Thats the only thing I can think. If we see a lot of injuries in the PS games then I would think that it was a lack of hitting.

What's with these calf injuries? First Bushrod and now Williams and in DJ's case it isn't mild if they expect him to miss a couple of weeks. Well now Bostic gets his chance let's see what he can do with it.

Sounds like they've been using Wootton in that role and he's looked good doing it. That kid could be a real stud if he can stay healthy.

So we don't sign Izzy who was never injured and a great team player who really amped up his game these last few years and instead we sign McBride who is now history with leg injury and Ellis pussy's out right before camp. Smooth moves there Phil. They're replaceable but I don't believe either would have been as useful as Izzy. We're still thin on that DLine.

By all reports the DL is looking very strong w/Wootton's ability to play DE and DT. I also heard last night on ESPN radio that Peae says he's bigger and faster then ever; and they said he looks near impossible to move off the line. Add Shea for depth and the young guys and I think we'll be fine there.

Much like BU what makes you think Izzy wanted to come back? Sure he could have said he did like BU did, but that doesn't mean he wanted to or would have signed the same contract from Det if offered by Chicago...like BU said.

Time to move on Soul, this is not your dad's Chicago Bears.
