Bears are trying to trade Earl Bennett per my NFL app
I am sure teams are lining up to trade for a concussed WR
Odd. If his injury is still an issue, they wont get much for him. If he's healthy, then whats the point?
I haven't kept up with the cap numbers, but I know Earl signed a healthy contract. They could be trying to cut costs to make room to re-sign players early. They must like what they see in some of the young guys. It could be if they can't trade him, he gets cut. So why not try to get something for him.
Maybe they are trying to make room for Marquess Wilson.
2mil a yr WR w/a history of concussions and has 1 right now..ya I bet they'll get plenty of offers.
Heard ESPN radio talking about this, they said it's all a matter of due course and don't expect much to come of it.
I would agree WearyBear, I think they like a lot of the young guys that have gotten their chance this year. I would guess that the Bears have taken a lot of calls about more then a handful their guys.
If he is traded his contract is a bit expensive (3 years left and he will cost around 2.5 million each year). We would have to eat 1.2 million in SB this year and 2.4 next year via cap hit. We probably can't get more than a 6th and that is probably a reach. Maybe a conditional pick based on games played or if he makes the roster?
Exactly, even at this point who would you rather have Marquess or Bennett? Again these new guys are making it easy to read the writing on the wall. Marquess is another Alshon in the making and Bennett is injury prone concussed player. I think at this point they'll take a happy meal and tickets to any of the Chicago baseball teams to get rid of him.
LOL! I agree!
Hey, I don't think it's likely either, but if they could get a 6th, or even a seventh and add that to the 6th we got for Carimi, now your stockpiling picks. Those picks can be used to move up a couple of spots here and there in the middle rounds for players that have slipped. Sometimes those extra late rounders can really help you make some moves. I like it. Ya gotta try.
Prediction: they won't get squat for Bennett
Shame cuz I've always liked him & that he'd probably prosper in this system but it's time...
I never liked Bennett. He is small and has dropped too many balls. When I think of him, i automatically think of the drop he made in the end zone in PS 2012. It was perfectly thrown.
so... a preseason game turned you off of him?
And didn't Bennett lead in catches or catching percentage in the NFL two years ago?
Personally if he could get healthy & stay healthy I'd like to keep him in a Bear uniform. He's got good hands & is a good runner after the catch. Sadly though I will admit one more concussion & he may be done so I can see why they might be weighing their options.
Yes Benj, chicity....seriously....wow
I know how it is when a player doesn't win you over but using that criteria must mean you must hate BM. lol
haha ChiCityBears is such a tool... it's like he doesn't even watch the Bears...
Aaaanyways... There's a reason he's one of Cutler's favorite targets... unfortunately he's made of freakin' glass... He's gotten plenty of opportunities here... I'm ok with them moving on... if not now, after this season.
Yeah, that comment was beyond dumb. If there's ONE thing about Earl no one could bitch about, it's his surehandedness. He isn't the biggest or fastest or most durable but he does definitely catch the ball.
Bears have had some discussions about trading WR Earl Bennett. Trades not easy to make this time of year, though. per Adam Schefter.
