Sweet Podlesh gone and Ratliff for 2 yrs. Probably means no Melton with Ratliff but still possible I guess, atleast somethings starting to happen.

That is good, him and Anderson were a couple of the bright spots on defense, but they could not do it alone.

Great news. I thought he played well for the limited amount of games he saw action. He played better with more time in the system.

The signing of Ratliff pretty much spells walking papers for Melton, his knee injury is a big concern and i don't think the Emery and Trestman are gonna bring Melton back and risk spending money not knowing if he'll return to true form again.

I like this move and I agree Melton is out. When you blow out AC like Melton/Harris there's just no stability to push off from. Especially the size of the these D linemen, take at least a good year or if ever to come back from.

Just posted a new thread that Melton's value may not be high in the eyes of other GM's. So if we are able to sigh Bennett, resign either one of Collins or Melton at a reduced "1 year prove your worth contract" and then draft a DT in the first round we are starting to look better at having some talent on the line. Re-signing Wotten would be ideal.

One thing I hope we can get this year on the D line is depth. You only have to look around the league to see it's more than having 4 good starters. We need 8 players capable of performing. Some of those may be rookies but I hope we enter the season with 3 solid DE and 3 solid DT then back them up with the rookies and/or the guys we drafted or signed last year like Bass or C Wash. Maybe we are better of avoiding the expensive guys and bringing a range of solid starters in. I want the defense to be good next year but it might be smarter to patch up all the big gaps, see the scheme and develop some young players and then spend the big dollars in the right spots.

It's a good singing, and helps obfuscate their pick at 14. If they can get Melton at the right price I have no doubt they'd bring him back, if not they might try and get Collins.

    Still need in FA/draft:
    2DE
    backup DT
    MLB
    2CB
    2FS
    backup SS
    backup TE
    backup QB

ACL's aren't the death knoll they used to be. Many times you can fully recover within a year. Medicine is a lot better than it used to be. We have a kid at our gym who is a 310 pound lineman who tore his ACL twice running 1.7 10 yard splits right now.

This is clearly a signing by Emery to bring in more non-Lovie guys! <sarcasm>

Good move though. Ratliff's energy and nastiness sparked the defense a bit after he got more snaps in under his belt.

Happy to see this signing, although he is still a stopgap and we need much new blood along the DL. Wootton is a much more important signing, and I really hope they don't let him walk. His numbers dropped last year, but it was because he was forced to play inside. He is a quality DL, and is only 26. Would be a huge mistake to let him walk away.
