Must mean an extension for another Bear player or possibly another big free agent signing.

I was hoping they wouldn't have to do this but we'll see what's behind it. Rookie pool maybe?

Not many free agents left worth big dollars. DeSean Jackson WR Eagles, Jared Allen DE Vikings, and maybe Chris Clemmons FS Miami, Mark Sanchez, Thomas DeCoud FS Atlanta, and Knowshon
Moreno RB Denver. Allen and Clemmons would make sense, Decoud not at that price range I do not believe. So maybe its several guys. Cant see us giving it to a QB when we did not give it to McKown and we do not need a big time receiver so.. Should be interesting.

I could see Clemmons but with the influx of safeties,FA, and the draft pending I thought they would wait.

Just wondering...but does this move have to be money spent for this year? Is there a current player who would be signing a new contract?

Might not be to sign another FA this year or in general...

Anything is possible, but it doesn't really make much sense. Cutlers contract is flexible, so if they wanted to do something next year, they don't have to do it now just to carry that cap over, they could wait until next year. That said, the point you make is a good one. Now (with the latest collective bargaining agreement), teams only have to spend 89% of the cap, allowing them to carry over the balance to next year, effectively increasing that years cap by 11%. If it was anyone other than Cutlers contract (or the other guys that also signed flexible contracts), it would make more sense, but I openly admit that I am no Cliff Stein, and there could be a benefit to it.

Frankly, I DO fall in the category that think they are maneuvering for someone else, but I have no clue who it could be. Hell, it could be someone on offense.

Could be for most anything Seqq and anything unspent against the cap can be carried over as long as the declare it. They need about $3 mil in cap space reserved for rookies when the draft begins and will probably need between $4 and $5 mil to sign them. They also need a reserve for replacements but all that can be dealt with later. My guess is Emery has some other moves he'd like to make and although Ihedigbo says he's signing with Detroit it hasn't been announced yet.

There are still a few others he might be looking at but I'd be about 99% certain Jared Allen isn't one of them. Not with the deals Ware and Pep got. Allen is looking for $10-$12 mil and I doubt he gets that but he's gonna want something equal to what the others got and we aren't gonna go that high. For that we could have kept Pep. My guess would be another LB or maybe a Safety, Moreno.....maybe?

This is probably a futures move. Can't see anyone out there worth having to do this for.

I think he's just adding funds to his debit card Mats. If something comes along he might like to pull the trigger on then he just created $5 mil of cap space to do it with and there's a lot more where that came from. I don't see any big dollar signings though.

Just a hair brain idea but wouldn't it be a great time for Stein and Emery to work their CAP magic and try to re-sign BMarsh? Something like 4-45 with 30 guaranteed? Just throwing it out there and then reducing his CAP hit to 5-5.5 million giving us another 4.5 to work with?

This could be a move for after the draft, when someone good will be released because of a rookie/cap space made them expendable.

Or extending one of our own.

    Or a trade

Or one of the FA still left.

Oh hell I'm just guessing :3_7_1[1]:

Certainly possible. I've always thought they would do the Marshall and Cutler contracts at similar times, just because the two are so tight.
