    Bears sign DE Austin Lane

Found 16 hours ago on cover32 - Bears:
    PLAYERS: Brandon Marshall
TEAMS: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars
    Tweet
The Chicago Bears signed free agent defensive end Austin Lane on Monday. Lane appeared in two games for the Detroit Lions last season. He was released before the start of free agency allowing him to sign elsewhere. Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker coached Lane for three seasons (2010-2012) where he had 66 tackles and three sacks in 30 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lane was drafted by the Jaguars in the fifth-round back in 2010. Well he looks like a depth guy at best.
Cut Peppers and move Shea to OLB, all of the sudden we are thin at DE, so we need some depth guys, Tucker must like the kid and he is available early, so no reason not to get him.

Corn Wash must really suck :(

I would be glad to be wrong, but nothing other than "he is still on the team" indicates that the team has any faith in him.

Well the number is really 22 tackles and 1 sack a year, but that really depends on the amount of game time he got. If that was all done in mop up time (which in Jax means "there is no way we can catch the opponent" time).

I just read this on Roto. He had 3 sacks in 3 years.

I don't think ANYONE thought he was the cure. I think we were hoping for depth with his signing.

I will be surprised if Austin is still with the team for the regular season. I don't have anything against him but there is more upside for Bass than this guy. I would rather have Izzy back from the Lions. They didn't make much use of him last season.

Possibly late camp fodder signing. At this stage it might take a while to sort the bad chaff from the really bad chaff on the DL. And Emery better remember to keep enough senior depth this year no matter how bad they are.

1 sack every 10 games. That was his average. At that rate, he will fit in fine with our current DL.
