Would be a welcome addition. Played well until he was lost for the season.

I was really hoping this would happen. I think his season-ending injury has been under-estimated. Glad they want him back.

If he's signed, Ratliff/Collns also signed and w/no MBennett coming to the Bears, at this ping I have to think DE is ranking higher in importance then anything else come draft day.

Ric, just hit on this very point in the other Bennett thread. But I was being ultra radical in suggesting we trade this year's first plus next year's first/second to get a crack at Clowney.

Hate to keep harping on this but besides Clowney the DE class is reportedly pretty weak. IOW, there's a big drop-off after him and another big one after Ealy. Most of them are "tweener" hybrid DE/OLB types like......errr, lets not go there. I don't claim to be a scout but that's the common theme I've been reading--the pro experts, the guys paid to do this for a living, aren't very enthusiastic about this years draft DEs.

If Emery passes up the consensus #1 best 3tDT to take a consensus inferior, lower ceiling DE because he whiffed bad on signing one in FA, then he will earn a reputation for being the GM "that couldn't do defense".

hate to keep harping on this but the drop between #1 DT and # 4 DT is not as far as the drop between #3 DE and # 6 DE so you have to choose your poison. Lets also not forget that the #1 or 2 CB could still be on the board and so could the #1 or 2 S; which are also both still needs, as well as the #1 MLB.

I'm all for a DT, but only if other holes are filled via FA to allow BPA.

I'm not for drafting another DE in the 1st or 2nd who isn't that good of a DE.
The position is an enormous need for us times two and the draft is not shaping up favorably to be of much immediate help. Ok, the Bennett thing failed. On to Plan B. In free agency that is. That's my overall point.

No, I don't want to be stuck going into the draft desperate enough to take the 30th best player at #14 instead of the 12th best just because he's listed as a DE.
