It would be nice if he were to come back for a year, I heard after the season he and Briggs had always wanted to retire together.

    Thats the only logical plan.

He's VERY rooted here, and the Bears said they wanted him back. They just didn't make any effort to get him. They probably want him to play the field to show him this is his home.

Kind of like letting someone free.. If they come back, he's yours.

The Yankees did this with Jeter before. He wanted crazy money from them and they told him to go see what he was worth out on the market and come back to them. He found out, and he signed his deal with the Yankees. People need to calm down a bit. Let Tillman see what the market thinks he's worth...maybe then he'll see the Bears offer isn't so bad.

Good news. Hopefully Phil will stop wasting his time by signing mediocre veterans and focus on real playmakers like Peanut and Wootton.

Couldn't agree more. Phil's unimpressive moves in the FA safety market were a little reminiscent of JA's dumpster dives. We really could use Peanut back (+ draft his understudy) and I'd take Wootton back in a heartbeat as well if his medical checks out.

I don't think Phil is dumpster diving as bad, I'll have to admit this is one bad year for FA. I agree that he needs to sign Tillman like right now, and lets get Peppers back here as well!

The Mundy signing isn't as bad as many here are making it out to be. You need depth players also...however I've made it known I would have liked ward in a bears uni.

This was an unipressive FA class, and when the Bears signed Cutty to 20mil he cut into the FA moves. The Bears were either letting Cutty walk and getting REALLY good on D and having to risk rebuilding the O again, or sign Cutty to a stupid 2nd tier qb contract and have to build the D through the draft and get depth guys in FA.

Everything he's done has been to increase the talent of the depth guys ,and he's done that.

There were better way safeties out there in FA that didn't require Byrd-money. Emery missed, pure and simple.

I don't expect "signing the #1 guy at every position of need". I do expect solid, clear upgrades like Bennett/Bushrod/Slauson were last year. At safety, Emery signed one trash player and one who's a marginal upgrade (hopefully) over the total shit we has last season. Not impressed.

Again, I will repeat and have no one listen, their DB's are coming from the draft, they are no over paying for FA's, the FA's are going to be depth guys, Houston was the lone exception.

I've gotta agree with Ric, the DB crop is pretty damn deep in this draft. Unlike past years where we spend a 3rd on a "reach" Safety, this year, we can spend the same 3rd and get someone who can be a very good starting Safety in this league. That's why we're not spending the money for starting Safety's, and it's EXACTLY why we're spending small money on depth. This is precisely how teams build lasting, good quality units. These guys may not be setting the world on fire as a starter, but they are damn good back-ups. The best back-ups are the guys that have pro experience but are not quite up to starter materiel. Experience is the key as I would rather have these guys than UDFA that werent good enough to be drafted and have no experience.

Dude, we both know you know that your implications of Cutler's contract being cumbersome are disingenuous. If there was a FA worth breaking the bank for, he could change the numbers up, easily.

HB, and by changing it up it adds to his cap hit over the next 5 years, negating the value of it being a 3yr deal. it's not disingenious, Byrd, Verner were worth breaking the bank for, but the team couldn't.

I believe the Bears are waiting on Peanut to determine his value on the market. If the $$ matches the Bears value, he will resign. My rationale is the Bears would have already signed Bowman, if they had no intention of signing Peanut. Once the Bears know that they can not meet Peanuts $$ demand, look for Bowman to be resigned.
