Technically, it (a signing bonus conversion) doesn't add to Cutler's cap hit, it prolongs it. Would add cap costs for him, and therefore potential dead money if he were released, in years 4 and 5 in return for reducing his cap charge this year. It's pretty clear that this is Emery's option-of-last-resort for 2o14 cap relief and he doesn't intend to deploy it.

We cut Bush and Peppers without using the June 1 designation (surprised me) which would have given us millions more cap dollars in 2 1/2 months. Instead the team is going eat the dead cap all this year to get it off the books. Same thing with Cutler's deal. For all the carping about its 2014 number, it's a very front-loaded deal. Next year Jay's cap hit goes down $7m and is almost $12m less than Romo's.

Seems clear that Emery is choosing to "take your cap medicine" all upfront this year and get it over with.

I have always thought that taking the medicine up front will put us in much better shape come 2015 and this year we had some cap to sign some depth guys (this killed us last year).

The Draft is one of the best in quite some time and we should be able to fill a lot of needs. Emery is trying to be responsible with the money that we do have in order to set us up well for the future.

I agree I want Tillman back, but disagree on wanting Peppers back, we need players that like they want to play in Chciago, not players that just show up on Sunday and stand around doing nothing.

If we re-sign Tillman we are either going to take Clinton Dix or Aaron Donald unless Emery is kind of crazy.. perhaps if Gilbert falls and Clinton is already taken I can see Emery taking Gilbert but if he takes anybody else I will be furious

The cowboys are after Melton, and will pay him more than the bears are willing to offer. I agree A. Donald will probably be the choice unless we bring in another DT free agent.

Emery has to be looking at the fact we have to sign Marshall next year and Alshon the next. The Peppers albatross will be gone and Briggs will too. We should be in good shape.

In that scenario, I agree. I'd add Mosely to the target list if he's available. But no need to reach now for a low-1st DE that's for sure. Problem is.....Emery still scares me a bit, I'm not over Shea-shock yet lol.

Jernigan would be the other one over Donald. Depends how they rated them and if the size issue is a concern
