I don't think so, I think Martellus and Michael used this as a way to make sure Michael got paid.

Anyone think it would be any kind of idea to try and trade up to grab Clowney? I mean mortgage this years and next year's firsts plus a second if that is what it takes?

If we were a DE away, ya why not, but the team NEEDS so much more then just a DE that I don't know if the team can afford to move up at all, let alone to the #1.

That's a bummer. Now we need to draft DE/DT in the first-round, pronto.

Sounds like Adam Schefter was right after all.

And the dream has died. For Bears fans anyway. Marty helped Michael duped the Bears into getting paid by the SeaHawks

Per NFL.com b/c of the new Bennett deal with the Seachickens, they are speculating that DE Chris Clemons, who is due to make $7.5M, might be a salary cap causality now

I think we should try to sign Melton, possibly pick Donald as our first round pick to at least create interior rush, and hope that Tuitt is available in the second round. I also still think the Rams could trade Long if they picked up Clowney at #2.

Hey, I was looking forward to the Bennett brothers too. It sounds like he would have helped quite a bit, but he is not what Peppers was and he's not Greg Hardy, so I think it was wise of the Bears to refrain from going crazy with the $$$. As I've said before, there are other ways to make this Defense better and FA hasn't even officially started yet.

Hang in there fellas, this may actually free us up to do some other things that we may like better.

Problem #2: if we have no one else at DE signed, what motivation at all does Pep have to accept a substantial pay cut?

I didn't say he would...if he's going to make the kind of money he's scheduled to make...he could do us a solid and at least play 1/2 as good as he used to instead of 10%.

Last I read on Allen was he had a list of 5 teams he was interested in and the Vikings weren't one of them. Have heard Lovie & Bucs are interested in him.
