I agree completely Soul. Garza will start this year & Puente will backup both OG & OC. Maybe LS as well. Now we have depth at OL by this signing & Britton signing. Next year Garza will probably retire & Puente will be resigned to 3-4 year deal as our starting OC. Very good signing IHMO.

interesting, so I guess the team isn't that sold on Boggs, but then why did they sign him also?

LOL, I have to wonder if that's not too far from the truth. It seems odd to me you would sign a younger and better/equal player for LESS money to be a backup.

Sounds great on paper but it's a vet min deal right? Like McCown's? Meaning you can't re-sign him until the start of FA next year right?

You know... That was going through my mind also. If that's the case, it makes less sense. Sign a guy to sit on the bench that you can't sign again next year and might lose. For some reason though, I think I remember that you can sign a guy for two years at vet minimum and then the third year you run into the McCown situation. Not for sure, but that's what the little hamster in my head says. Plus, I see them extending him for several years. At least I would hope.

BiH, there's something here in this situation we don't have all the facts on I'm guessing. If I recall correctly from the McCown thing, the rule is on a one year vet min contract the team gets a cap break but can't officially re-sign the player until the start of the new league year the following March. Carrot and stick thing. They can negotiate but can't put ink to paper hitch ensures the player that other teams can make offers to him if they want.

Does DLP have an injury concern? If not, I don't get why you would sign him this way to sit behind Garza. It's cheap insurance yes but I'm sure DLP wants to start and be the future starter. Am I wrong?

Veteran competition for our weakest spot on the OL? I'll take it.

Good point MP & you may well be right. Hopefully Emery learned from that contact & threw a bonus in or something that makes it different than McCowns. Also I don't think we have to worry about losing him to another team because he over played his contract (Like McCown did), unless of course Garza gets hurt. I think Puente realizes that he has a chance to get a decent contract & start next year plus he wants to play for Kromer. I think it's win win. We will see where it goes from here but I still think it's a very good signing. Now we don't "need" to draft a OC or OG.
