good call 4da.
This is kinda baffling IMO. Like the signing but I'm wondering what this means for Garza? Second thoughts on giving it another go? Unknown injury? Phil considering cutting him? Phantom injury to Slausen or Long? Just a depth signing for this year? Hard to tell but I expect some kind of news on something regarding him or someone else soon.
Boggs and Brown are in trouble. DLP can backup OC and OG, and Britton can backup OG and OT. They can ride with 7 linemen and take any 2 linemen in one game going down with no dropoff. If they want to carry a project lineman they can as well. Boggs's one year deal for 655,000 is now high for a 3rd string center, and Brown hasn't gotten much love from Kromer. I figure the Bears would go into camp with everybody to protect themselves from injury, but when final cuts come, Boggs and Brown are toast.
This is great bargain hunting by Emery using Kromer's connection to a former player to the Bears advantage. He can transition DLP over the year at such a cheap price, let Garza retire next year, and give DLP a Slauson kind of deal in 2015. If De La Puenta does not play except in reserve, he won't have much to bargain with and Emery can dictate the kind of deal he gets in 2015.
Mannelly was spotted this morning, headed to Halas Hall from the parking lot. If he can make it inside, they'll get him signed for another season.
I believe Roberto was a great addition to the Bears when he signed from Atlanta. He has always been an asset to Chicago and the team. However, if Phil can make the team better that's his job. He has made the tough choices with Urlacher, Hester, Melton, etc. As a Bear fan since 1951 I love when the Bears win, and if someone needs to be replaced so the bears can win, I support the decision. Roberto will always be remembered as a great team player. His age and physical condition have finally caught with him. Thanks Roberto in case BDP does replace you sometime during the season.
I see he has one of those devices that our old OL used to use to try and trip up the DL as they came in for the kill. Problem was they kept tripping over it themselves. Webb even tried eating one. It was a mess.
I love all the speculation when the reality of the situation is that NONE of us really know what Emery has up his sleeve and nobody can figure out just what he's going to do next. HOW REFRESHING !

^^^^This-post of the month. No amount of over analysis is going to predict the wildcard that is Emery. And that's a good thing.
This guy is the only Long Snapper listed on the team
