This is such a big blow imo to the team.. Almost everything went well and then this.. Man I'm out of words. Anyone good at voodoo or something like that?
Time for Collins to step up big time..

Its bad news and no surprise if you saw the play. Hate to say this, but....Melton had done NOTHING this year. That's not to say he wouldn't have shown up later, but I don't see much decline in the near term from Melton to Collins. In fact, Collins got way more interior pressure last night than Melton had. Be glad that Emery didn't ink him to a big guaranteed deal. Now, we do have a depth problem at DT to figure out.

Besides the fumble recovery last night, Melton has not had any impact plays this season. I have to agree with MPbears68 that at this point in the season there isn't much of a decline with Collins now starting next to Paea.

It will be interesting to see what Emery does to fill out the depth at DT this week. Christian Tupou, Eric Foster and Brent Russell were amongst the last DTs cut when finalizing out 53-man roster.

For those saying Melton has had little impact thus far this season...... Neither has Peppers

Melton didn't have big "numbers" as far as stats, but he was having an impact in games. When you lose a Pro Bowl player, that hurts your team significantly. Don't kid yourself, this hurts the team. It's not just "next man up" and go on - and not have it affect the defensive line this season.

    It stinks.

Odds just went way down to re-sign him.

I concur with you there... Peppers benefited last night of being lined up against some inexperienced OTs. Teams are still double teaming him the majority of the snaps though.

The only DLinemen that has shown the ability to step it up at times has been Wooton. McClellin has shown flashes in passing situations.

He missed the hole preseason just like Williams did and Williams did make a strong comeback last night and I'm sure Melton would have made the same comeback if he was healthy...

Break up the double teams they've been putting on Melton, and even Peppers it seems, and the other DL guys will be more locked up than they have been. All around, this blows.

Don't feel bad, I was thinking the same thing. I do believe Collins has played better than Melton. Melton is getting paid well for this season while injured, but that ACL likely just cost him several Million.
