The above post shows 11 Centers at the Combine. There has to be a sixth rounder there for us somwhere.

So it looks like Seattle isnt going to franchise BENNETT ... can Emery get two brothers to play on the same team ?

If you are Michael do you want to play for the best D and a SB franchise or the 32 D and a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in several years? If the money's close he'll stay in Sea, if another team w/a ton of cap(something the Bears don't have) blows him out of the water he'll go to that team. I don't think playing w/his bro is going to factor greatly into the decision unless Sea is out of the mix and all the money is similar

Damn good points Ric and lets remember this , before there was a Seattle and San Francisco ,

there WASN'T a Seattle and San Francisco.

Those teams got built to where they are now.

ARIZONA was the only team to beat Seattle on their turf.

And St. Louis had a record just as good as us.

Where this is leading to is the shift of the NFC ...

It has always been about the NFC EAST ... outside of Philly ,those days are over.

The whole thing has shifted to the NFC WEST.

The NFC SOUTH is in play ... but Atlanta and New Orleans arent what they were.

Carolina is the whole bag. Tampa ... Lovie as H.C. , Ill wait.

Which brings us to the NFC NORTH ...

Detroit ... in a flux state ... whos in charge ?

Minnisota ... in a flux state ... whos in charge?

Green Bay ... well for lack of a defense ... we should have been in the playoffs.

CHICAGO BEARS ... SEE : Seattle & San Francisco.

    Lets learn somthing.

Jackie, the Bears should gain another 8-9 million in space if what is being reported is true. The CAP may go up from 123-132 million. So that means we will be able to chase either an elit DLman or an elit safety. Hopefully DL and then draft BPA for the D based on needs.

    dabears,

Found this out about Centers in the late rounds ...

Russell Bodine, a center from UNC, put up 225 lbs. 42 times at the combine today.

I think the O side will get minor attention. I seeCenter and maybe another TE as possible draft targets in the lower 3 rounds. I think we go D in rounds 1-4. But I read somewhere that Emery may be interested intradng the 14th pick. Not sure if trading down.

I know ... right now its up in the air ... but if Emery can pull off on defense what he did with offense ...

I dont think we can play the 14th pick until draft day. We dont know whats going to happen.

That 14th pick is a pretty powerful weapon.

He knows there are a lot of teams that want to grab the BPA on offsense so maybe trading down for more picks is not a bad idea??

    By Michael C. Wright | ESPN.com

INDIANAPOLIS -- Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery possess such a dry sense of humor, it's difficult every now and then to differentiate between his jokes and serious statements, but he certainly seems very willing to trade the club's 14th overall pick in May's NFL draft.

Asked at the NFL combine inside Lucas Oil Stadium whether it would be more difficult to trade down because of the depth of the 2014 class, Emery mentioned for the second time during the interview session that several offensive playmakers are expected to be available in Chicago's slot at 14.

"It's always difficult to trade down unless you're willing to give up a lot of value, and we're not going to do that," Emery said. "We're going to make sure there's equal value. Unless we just see that that potential pick we're getting out of the deal is going to be in a significant spot where we can make some good out of it. The depth is good, especially on offense. I'm sitting here at 14, there are going to be some really good offensive playmakers on the board."

That's probably true, and there's a decent chance several teams might want to come up into that range to land one of them. Emery will certainly field calls from teams looking to trade up, but he's got to find an offer enticing enough to strike a deal and potentially gain a pick.

"I know at 14, I'm going to be sitting there and there's going to be a lot of offensive playmakers on the board," Emery said just minutes earlier. "This is a deep draft in offensive playmakers, and I'm sure my peers recognize that."

I could see that and agree. If 60-70% of the teams above us focus on Offense for their 1stpick then the chances of us getting a decent DL or secondary piece will be pretty high. Agree?

Even before it happens tomorrow at the Combine Jernigan seems like the best bet for us.

If he comes off with big numbers, he could be gone by #11.

Does Emery trade up or go to others or wait until next year ?

No matter what ... our DL cant wait until next year.

Ok how does this look ? We draft Jernigan and back it up with Justin Ellis 6'2" 343 lbs. in the fifth.

In second through 4rth we go after secondary.

Sixth we take a Center ... we still have one pick left in the sixth.

    KR?

Ahhh the Combine , coming up on Monday is LINEBACKERS and DEFENSIVE LINEMEN ,
an area that we may want to pay attention to.

    Especially Defensive Linemen.

What should a prototypical CHICAGO BEARS DT look like ?

Its clear it has to be Rhinoceros and Hippopotamus.

Baboons dont make it baby, better suited for LB.

I agree JJ, today will draw my intrest to the combine ESP on the DL front. I'll also like to see how CD compares to the saftey from UL. I have been on a bit of a football hiatus due to the Olympic hockey but will start to watch today.

I suppose that we should remember that Bushrod and Slausen didnt come out of the Combine.

But from what is coming up next ... FREE AGENCY.

We did get a nice read out of Kyle Long at the Combine .. and drafted him.

Anybody know any class "A" Defensive Linemen (Big Ted Washington,Keith Traylor) for signing ?

There has to be a Greg Jennings type out there somwhere at Safety ... in FA.
