That was my first thought. Pretty lame.
I'd prefer "Sir Jeffery"
I agree with those above; you don't usually come up with your own nickname. That said, before we start accusing this normally stoic and reserved kid of getting a little too full of himself, lets remember a couple of things:
1. He was asked the question by Sporting News in the interview about a nickname for himself. For all we know, this is not something has has spent a lot of time thinking about; it's a pretty vanilla name, so I suspect it's just something he came up with off the cuff to answer the question.
2. Even if he is growing a bit in his own mind, given where he started out (very quiet, shy and reserved), a little more confidence at this level isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I think all is just fine, and if he wants to be called "The Show", then that's fine by me...let The Show begin!!!
Headlines saying "We are the best duo" and "I'm the show" but when you read the article its more like "We were good last year but we gotta work hard to be that good again" and on the spot coming up with "I try to put on a show so I guess I'd be the show". I suppose he could be getting cocky but I feel like it's reporters reaching for shit that isn't there.
That's EXACTLY how I read it as well.
is it Al Sean Jefferies?
The scary thing is that Alshon had that kind of statistical output last season and his game has a good bit of room to grow still and he has the capability to grow that much more. He hasn't reached his ceiling. Amongst other things, he's still not to the point where you can say, "Ok... third and 8, let's find Alshon and he'll get us the first down.", the way we can with BMarsh. There aren't a lot of receivers in the league who can be that guy, but Alshon could be. It seems he knows it too and I haven't seen anything that says he's not working hard towards being one the best. It wouldn't surprise me if Alshon is a better receiver this season and he doesn't quite put up 1,421 yards. Hopefully some of meatball Bears fans can see through that though.
I say Alshon 'You better cook me dinner, im hungry as a Bear' Jeffery
Alshon 'Don't make me turn the hose on you' Jeffery
King Jaffe Jeffery!
There is danger in the attention these young guys get.
First sign of it is when you start giving yourself nicknames. Second... if he starts slipping into talking in the third person.
Really though what's he supposed to say?
Reporter: If you were to give yourself a nickname what would it be?
Alshon: I don't believe in nicknames.
