Good point. It is so late already. Another month would have been easy to do. Especially with the mandatory specialized super-secret clandestine operational procedures that Emery has been making the staff adhere to.

If Dix falls I can see it but I still hold with my thinking that Pryor is more of a SS and shoot for Jimmie Ward in two even if we need to trade up a few spots for him as we did with Jeffery. We've only ever used one 1st round pick on a Safety in my lifetime (and it's fairly long one, LOL). That was Mark Carrier and it was a great pick. We'll have to see what old Uncle Phil does with this. I wonder if they knew his shoulder was bad?

Good question. Other than the obvious "it sucked" reason, that may be why Phil put so much attention in FA to the line. He may have already been thinking in another direction for the draft. OOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR he wants to go DT all the way and by letting this out now, he puts down a situation that makes everyone think he WON'T go DT. Oh that sneaky dog....

I hope he has a quick and full recovery. And I hope (for the Bears sake as well as his) that he ends up being a solid safety for us.

Actually it may be just the opposite. Now it really opens up even more questions about who they might take. Half the draftniks think it'll be Donald and the other half are split between half a dozen other guys. I'll say this much. If Dix falls now there's a much better chance we'd take him but I still think that's a very optimistic thought. Gabriel sees Dix going to Detoilet @ 10 but they might take Dennard instead. If so then the Rams probably come into play for Pryor or Dix if the Lions don't take him.

So at best I'd say it's 50/50 we'll get a shot at either of them. But I'll trust Gabriel's opinion here and say Pryor has the goods to play either Safety spot whereas I think Mundy is the guy they signed as a SS. So I'm getting more comfortable with taking a Safety 1st now that it's certain Conte's ability to both recover and retain his starter role is in jeopardy. That said, if I'm the Bears I still would have a problem passing on a DT like Donald whose such a great fit.

I hope so too 99. I still think the kid could be a good ball player. He showed some signs of it at times and I keep reminding myself that he never played much Safety until he got here. Most of his college career was at CB.

Houston I was just commenting on that. This throws up more confusion around that first pick now and I see that as a good thing.

Maybe injured reserve or pup list for Conte. I don't like to see players get injured and their careers come to an end. Maybe explains why we brought in the safeties in free agency. He might not ever be back in a Bears jersey.

This looks to me to be the proverbial fork in the shoulder for Conte. I will be shocked to see him back next year playing for Bears. I believe it will take a year to recover before he feels confident enough to take hit to that shoulder following surgery.

Yep, could be. Lance came back from his after a short break but he wasn't whole and even with the entire offseason he's talking about wearing a harness. Well, it makes more of a difference to Conte than it does to the Bears. I'm certain they were going to draft a Safety anyway. The only real questions are who and where?

lets hope he is not the kind of guy that is scared to hit once he bounces back....might favour his shoulder too much and move to block his shoulder from contact which in turn is enough to let a player slip by him

I just hope this causes the Bears to draft a safety in the first two rounds.

:rofl2: :18_1_300[1]: = Conte making one of his 90 tackles.

I do have to wonder why it took until now for him to decide to have the surgery though if he injured it last season. Wonder if he's protecting himself this way by being put on the PUP list once camp starts or maybe the Bears suggested this so he doesn't take up a roster spot during his rehab.

Yeah this is not good. I think Dix/Pryor are looking more and more like the 14 pick unless the really love one of the 2nd round guys.

Tried rehab first which is the smart way to go.

Lovie took Major Wright off our hands, maybe he'll take Conte, too!

Would you guys take a chance on Adrian Wilson on a one-year contract?

That is why I said take a chance on a one-year contract. We have a big hole at safety, and if he has recovered from his injury, maybe he can help for one season. That's the idea.

Eh...35 and coming off an Achilles? The patriots signed Pat Chung to replace him...I'd have rather taken a flier on him.
