On 3rd-and-10 from their own 25-yard line in the middle of the fourth quarter, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler ran for a dozen yards to pick up the first down then finished the play by laying a thunderous hit on Steelers cornerback Robert Golden with his throwing shoulder.

Cutler appeared on The Jay Cutler Show with Waddle and Silvy on ESPN 1000 Monday and was asked if he has any regrets of the hit that many deemed as dangerous.

"No, I don't," he said. "I know what I'm doing out there, but thanks for your concern, I appreciate it."

The Bears struggled on third downs, only converting 3-of-12 up until Cutler's hit sparked two more conversions on the drive. And the low percentage rate is one of the reasons he didn't slide.

"We needed a first down," Cutler said. "We were struggling in the second half with third downs and we had to make something happen. We wanted to make sure we ... kept the clock going to try and continue the drive."

NBC Sunday Night Football analyst Cris Collinsworth complimented Cutler's toughness during the broadcast following the hit, but some Bears fans cringed seeing their quarterback lead with his shoulder.

"I understand everyone's concern, absolutely," Cutler said. "But I have to play the game and that's how I sometimes have to play the game. Sorry, I'm not sorry."

But Cutler also isn't looking for the recognition and the hit may seem different to a fan that's watching on television.

"I'm not looking for you admiration, I'm just trying to pick up a first down in the fourth quarter," he said. "You're watching it on TV, I'm in the moment and I'm not going to miss the first down by half a yard because I had to slide."

Will Cutler promise to not do that again?

"I can't promise that, no," he said.

Oh no... fans are mad at him because he could have severely injured his throwing shoulder, which would effectively end his and the Bears season

Walter payton would be proud of this hit yet every bear fan probably cringed when he plowed over the DB.

Had he driven his left shoulder into the guy, I doubt many fans would have batted an eye.

But it was a great hit. Just wish it wasn't his throwing shoulder

I don't want either shoulder driven into other players for a few yards. Runningbacks can do that but a qb should not unless they are going after the knees of that fat tackle in Detroit. lol

Not sliding is pretty badass, but he has to use his head a little more. He's built like a girl and the last thing we need is a stupid injury like that. Thankfully he wasn't hurt.

Good for Jay! While yes I did cringe a bit when he hit the guy but we won the game and that's what mattered.

Little Bear, you seem to forget that that rocket arm is worthless if, say, a torn rotator cuff happens. Martellus Bennett even admitted on the Boers and Bernstein(sp?) show that he and the guys were first relieved, then pissed at Jay for doing that.

Found the link for it. I didn't catch the whole interview, but it's in there, if you want to listen.

He is not built like a LB, but I'm sure that Jay is in good shape, but I still do not like the idea of the season being over because Jay is injured.
