Via Dave Kaplan's Twitter (and apparently on his show which will be replayed at 10)

Dan Hampton on Urlacher's dive comments: "That was silly to say that. You don't tell everybody all of your business."

Dan Hampton "Urlacher said some stupid stuff last yr. If I was a current Bears player I'd be pissed off. There's things u don't talk about"

Dan Hampton: "We never took a dive on the 85' Bears. No, we did not do anything like that.

I agree - if Urlacher would have kept it zipped and not talk trash about the fans, he'd be playing for us.

Urlacher is having a hard time being out of the limelight. He is commenting on stuff just to get air time. I think he is trying to get noticed for a TV or Radio gig.

I love the guy, but he is starting to sound desperate.

    ???

It was his loss of mobility & his back, not his mouth that sealed that deal...

He is having a really hard time adjusting to a post-Lovie world.

First he hits the wall of reality (face first) over his contract negotiations and finds out that his NFL career is over. Now he has to produce content as a media person. Unless he can come up with something of substance, he will be off the air (sooner rather than later).

I am starting to feel sorry for him.

I figure it's not a huge deal. Just a bit disappointing. He seems like a good guy, and he sure gave us a lot of great years as a player. So I'm giving him a "pass" and hoping he settles down into retirement. And he will. It's like a phase he's going through. Dachuckster hit the nail on the head.

I think this will be especially difficult for him, after so many years of avoiding the media or just coming out with his curt replies. Now he has to talk, and doesn't have the experience.

I don't even think it's him having to come up with content. I think it's just him talking without realizing the consequences of his words. He's a media person now and every outlet out there is going to pick up what he says. I just don't think he realizes the weight of his words with this new gig.

That and he isn't too bright.

Listen to th audio link. In it he said that he didn't realize it was something that should not have been said or he would not have said it.

He has a history of speaking without thinking.

"I don't care about the fans"

"Bears fans are the only ones who boo their own team at home"

    Just for example.

He is a great player, but for him he is better seen and not heard.

I just want to remember BU as #54 ... a one man wrecking crew.

He gave a lot of great years to us as a player and deserves respect for that. I just wish he would just STFU and start acting start acting like an "elder statesman". I'm sure the Bears would welcome him back into the family eventually. After all, he may go into the HOF as a Bear someday.

I like Hamp even when gets real excited and starts to stutter. He gives good honest info. but then again I like the entire '85 D.

Never thought about it that way, but he's had a history of saying the wrong things frequently. His dismissal of Sayers and Butkus because "they never won the SB" says a lot about the guy's mentality.

Urlacher isn't now, never has been, and never will be the sharpest tool in the shed. Remember some of the problems he had with the different women in his life and how he handled them.

that's exactly right. he's isn't the brightest and I think after the backlash on this dive issue, he may think a little harder about what he says next. if he doesn't and continues to put a bad light on the Bears, then I will start to think it's malicious. as of right now, I just think the dummy isn't using his brain. I love the guy, don't get me wrong...any ex-Bears player that says his Superbowl pick is Da Bears over Da Bears is ok in my book, but I can still admit he isn't really that smart.

I said something similar on another thread, I think he's bored and needs something to keep him involved or related to football......yet he's going the wrong way about it.

Yep. There aren't too many defensive lineman who can/could play outside and inside at the levels that Dan Hampton played.
