I was just looking at the Seahawks 2010 draft where they got Thomas and Chancellor. Say we draft Ha Ha in round 1 and Buchananon is there in round 2... Would you double up knowing that our safety spot is effectively set for at least the next 4 years?

    Just a thought.

Ummmm we need more help than just safety. We need a CB. Tillman is likely done after this season.

A young DL or two would be nice and a LB at somepoint as well please

I understand that...which is why we have 7 picks.

    I'd be ok with this:

    S HA’SEAN CLINTON-DIX
    ALABAMA
    51

    S DEONE BUCANNON
    WASHINGTON STATE
    82

    CB PIERRE DESIR
    LINDENWOOD
    117

    DT CARAUN REID
    PRINCETON
    156

    CB ANTONE EXUM
    VIRIGNIA TECH
    183

    RB ISAIAH CROWELL
    ALABAMA STATE
    191

    TE COLT LYERLA
    OREGON

I could see Fuller then someone else in the second round. Fuller could then perhaps go back to CB depending on FA and how Peanut fares and if Conte recovers/improves his game.

We do, but I would not use the first two on safety. Get a good one early and a capable one late.

DB is the teams biggest short and longterm weakness. doubling up on S wouldn't be a horrid idea, but I think they don't like this S class enough to do it, if it went anything like what the OP said it would be S and CB to play S for at least a year 2.

Tillman is a clear starter at CB this year. He could play out 2014 and we could sign/draft a replacement before the 2015 season.

There is no clear starter at either Safety spot this year. Mundy is a question mark and hasn't done much throughout his career, Conte is injured, and if Jennings, McCray, Steltz, and Martin see the field at Safety then we're in trouble.

Safety is a far bigger need than at CB and at DL for that matter.

I agree. But would I put it past Emery to go.....

    1. Fuller (cb/s)
    2. Joyner (cb/s)

No I wouldn't. Hell, I don't put anything past him he could go punter/longsnapper in 1 and 2.

It would be intriguing to see Pryor/Ward in 1 and 2 but I doubt that will happen and don't think that is the best option for our team.

If we can manage Pryor/Haha 1-2 maybe... But unlikely. Still not sold on going safety 1-2

Yep, if by some miracle that happened would be the only way 1,2 safety would be justifiable.

I don't know that thats the only safety in 1 and 2 is justifiable. You wouldn't be excited to have a safety tandem of Ha Ha and Buchananon? All we hear about on this board is how we need a safety who can intimidate people...well thats what Buchananon can do, and he can cover, as can Ha Ha. They would be day 1 plug and play guys....without a doubt. Can you say that about any corner we would draft at that spot? Certainly can't say it about any linebacker. Any DT would be a rotational guy unless it's someone drafted at 14...and even still they'd be a rotational guy. You'd have 2 guys who would play 100% of the defensive snaps barring injury and do it well. That's certainly justifiable.

Either way, I don't think it will happen just because I don't think Buchananon would be available when we pick in the second round, but it would solve our biggest problem right away, and the more I talk about it the more I like the idea.

I fully understand what you're saying but we should go after hte best person available regardless of athleticism that Emery likes

I have been thinking that S is a good bet at 14, but the more I read about the S being weak this year and that they have not been as good as previous years, Emery is the kind of guy that just looks at cold hard facts and stats. If he feels that these guys are not worthy of a 14 pick based on comparisons to what he feels a #14 S should be, he won't take one. Not sure I agree since we need one and I think there are two that are worthy, but it would not surprise me if we did not go S based on that logic. Or I could just be outhinking myself again. Like I've never done that before...

By the way, if Detroit drafts Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans this might be more a reality than you guys may want. We better address that secondary(safety spot) early and often.

Yes, Safety is the biggest need ATM so get the best safety you can at 14. But if we do that, safety is no longer the top need when the second round comes along. I'd say maybe CB is will Tillman on his last leg.

Always been a firm believer of taking the BPA based on need

Then again we do have two good starting CBs for this coming season, and no safety.... So maybe you have a point.

    Safety 1-2

PFfft, I'd be jumping for joy. I'd love some LB help and a higher DT but if our first two picks are Haha and Bucannon I would not be upset in the least. Honestly, it's about who can contribute. If these guys are good picks and become starters no ones going to care what position. We need playmakers at every single level and getting a starter level DL/LB/DB are all necessary. If we had two starters at safety who were competent and could start for years, I'm sold. I don't think Buc will be there in the second, but I don't know shit.. I'm excited for this draft to just get started. Desir in the third would be sick, we just fixed our secondary, on paper, in one draft.

I'm not one to draft to spite other teams (McC so Pack couldn't grab him, Eagles taking Graham to stop G-Men from getting him).. the shit just doesn't work out. You draft people YOU believe in who can contribute to your team. But this is a very, very good point. Megatron is going to draw so much coverage and Tate has great hands. If they draft Evans or Watkins to play across from Megatron and Tate in the slot our secondary is going to be crying two games a year.
