Are you serious? None of the decisions made on defense were right. NONE. Our Defense went from top 5 to bottom 3, in almost every statistically relevant category
    32nd YPP
    30th YPG
    32nd Yards per rush - A distant 32nd
    31st Points allowed.

They were a total joke. Urlacher may be slower, but the defense is much better against the run, with him, than without him.

Subtract 1 from each of those rankings and that's where we would have finished with Urlacher last year. And that's IF he stayed healthy all year on an already bum knee at age 35. Huge fan of mid-2000s Urlacher but it was simply time.

    It begins.....

If we had finished 31st in Yards per rush, I think we make the playoffs.

Here is the void between 31st in yards per rush and The Bears.
32nd- The Bears allowed 2583 yards, 5.3 yards per rush
31st- Atlanta Falcons allowed 2173 yards, 4.8 yards per rush

25 MORE yards per game than the 31st ranked Defense(in Rush yards per game).

No one, and I mean NO ONE, is arguing that the defense last season was anything but atrocious. But suggesting that BU would have made a substantial difference in that, even if "healthy", is where we part company. We are talking about 35 yo bum knee Urlacher, not 2006 Urlacher. Notice how none of the other 31 NFL teams even made an offer for him. Were all 32 GMs wrong?

A top 5 defense turned into this:
    32nd YPP
    30th YPG
    32nd Yards per rush - A distant 32nd
    31st Points allowed.

And you are arguing that they were right?

Unless he's wearing one of those godawful Tampa uniforms this year and proves us all wrong he should STFU and move on.

The classic error of confusing correlation with causation. Might there have been some other factors in the above besides the absence of Urlacher? Gee, ya think?

b/c their plan was for Melton/Collins/DJ/Tillman all to be hurt? For Peppers to literally fall off the cliff and for Paea to play hurt all year and Wootton to be playing DT. Obviously that was the plan, to let BU/Izzy/Roach all walk get younger equal to or better talent and then have everyone get hurt, it's so obvious now. What a better way to prove how great BU was then to have the team's D sink the year he left, he should be thanking them, w/out their over the top efforts to tear this D down, when he left most people wouldn't have noticed at all.

Reality is what you saw from Peppers last year(ie nothing) is what you would have seen from Brian, which is what he had shown the last few years. And EVERYONE seems to forget that even if his play was good, this is assuming HE stays healthy, which I don't think is a given by any means. Chances are the minute Melton/Collins go down and the OL gets a hold of Brian he's going down also, so it's all moot anyways. Peppers is the exact position the team was trying to avoid w/Urlacher, which is it's better to get rid of the player a year early then a year late and that was the correct move.

I really don't care about what happened in the past. Time to see what the Bears can do THIS year. That's all I really care about now. I wish all former Bears players the best. But I'm all about the guys we have on THIS year's team.

I'm willing to give Emery/Trestman/Tucker a mulligan on last year's defense. I'm over it. But the D better be decent THIS year or I'm figuring the team just swapped a clueless offense crew in Angelo/Lovie/Tice - for clueless defense crew in Emery/Trestman/Tucker. Let's see what they can do this year. Hopefully they can do better.
