Wow he might have a hard time finding work with all that talent still availible and a deep draft.

Maybe he feels out the Market and comes back?

With Wilson coming along with Bennett's cap cost I could see this coming and after they signed Hixon it was about as sure a thing as you could get. Somebody is gonna get themselves a very good dependable WR. Bob, could be right about Carolina being a potential landing spot. Their WR cupboard is pretty bare so maybe Earl and Hixon trade places.

I would have to agree with Carolina possibly landing him especially with the mishandling of their UFA WRs and the Stevie Smith situation.

As far as the Bears go... Hopefully Wilson's off-season work with Jeffery and BMarsh produces a breakout season. I'm sure he's matured with a year in the pros under his belt since his 'off the field' issues with Leach. But I see Emery bringing in at least some undrafted free agents and possibly even using a 4th/5th round pick on a WR since the draft is deep by the time camp rolls around.

We have 3 WRs (4 if you include TE Bennett) with height and excellent leaping abilities... I feel we need a small fast slot guy yet to contrast that.

And before Urlacher jumps in with another rant about "loyalty," remember that Emery and the Bears did want him back, but felt he wasnt worth what they had to pay him, so they asked him to take a paycut. Earl is within his rights to refuse, if he feels he is worth more, then the market will determine that fact, but nobody can act like the Bears were not interested in bringing him back this year.

Agreed. Weems isn't worth the paper his contract is printed on. Wouldn't even bother with the pay cut request. 86 this dude and get it over with. He adds nothing on O and became a penalty liability on ST last year.

I was hoping Earl would agree to a reduction to $1-1.5m or so to be able to justify keeping him. But since he refused, there's no choice but to release him. He's not worth $2.5m certainly with Marsh and Jeffery ahead and Wilson coming up. I wouldn't mind one cheap vet signing to compete with Marquess at #3. Just handing him the job seems like a leap of faith a little too far right now.

Not surprising. He's a decent WR but for whatever reason, the offense never seemed as reliant on the #3 WR as other teams are. And if they feel Wilson can fill in without a dropoff, might as well save the cap room.
