Bennett catches the ball well and he was a very good #3 for us, but the problem is he was being paid as a #2 and the reality is that he was more like a #5 after B.Marsh, Jeffery, Forte, and The BU.

    Good Luck Earl,

Bottom line, we have a docents amount of WR talent.

It's basically easiest to say they are a dime a dozen.

And that's the problem. We don't know that for sure.

We are releasing a player who's proven to be a reliable #3 receiver with the best hands in the league and at the same time we are hoping that Wilson can step up and become the third guy behind Marshall and Jeffery. How can we be so sure about him? He only had two catches for 13 yards, what if he turns out to be a bust?

Basically he's too rich for our blood.

It's not that he's not good, he's just making too much for what we need him to do.

I hear ya little bear. Earl does have great hands. If its within reach, he's usually going to catch it, however, he doesn't always get open, and from my perspective, he's never been the same since that 2011 (or maybe it was 2012) game against the Saints where they drilled him in the chest and he lost like 6 weeks. He plays tentative now, much like I would probably play if I got drilled that way, and that's only if you could get me out on the field. He used to be great at going across the middle, but not so much anymore. Perhaps he'll come out of it, but he's not worth that coin playing that way.

I wish him the best, but money and the cap is part of the game now, and sometimes tough decisions have to be made, some of which come back to haunt you. I hope that is not the case for us, but at the same time, I wish him the best, unless we play him.

This move needed to happen IMO. Saves some cap with no dead hit and he was overpaid for what he did in our offense. Give Wilson a chance to come on and see what he can do in that role.

Sucks because he looked good after he got over the concussion issues, but he's replaceable.

Do players ever really get over concussion issues? One concussion isn't an issue, several in a couple of years with long spans of recovery......RED LIGHT.

Chris Williams. The kid from Canada that Trestman wants to replace Hester with. He's 5'8"/175lbs and runs a 4.3 forty. But I'd take Hixon as a possibility in the slot as well. Emery's bent on replacing guys who just do one thing with guys who do multiple things.

It's tough to lose a guy whose been one of your more consistent players but his injuries have hurt and we've upgraded at WR to the point where he's no longer a necessity. I wish him well. He'll be playing for somebody somewhere this year.

Everyone keeps saying it's sad to see one of the more "consistent" players gone. EB was consistent, yes. But he was consistently mediocre (at best). Now we have a chance for Wilson and/or Hixon to create competition and it saves us cap space that we can use to get more depth at other positions! Love this move, it was nice knowing ya, Earl!

Not for nothing, but the guy was always hurt....how is that reliable? He played 16 games once in his career.

He caught awesome TD catch from cutler this year corner back of endzone. Earl has great hands to bad wish him best. Though take awhile for me to get used to great wide recieving core and depth we have on it. Someone will fill that role Hixon has good hands and faster then earl. In the end his cap number was too much for being number 4 on the depth chart. I remember people being happy when earl got his first contract, seemed like a bargin.

Must be getting ready for rd 2 of FA. Got this for Spotrac.com. We will need approx. 5 million for the drafted rookies so getting money makes no sense unless he is about to begin RD 2 of FA.

Thanks for the stats BSBears. Don't know if Emery is going for another FA or just taking his medicine now. Wonder now how we rate with cap vs. other teams since we were top 5-6 this year.
