Say it ain't so....
I want to see CornWash break through this year under better coaching. He has a ton of upside potential physically, if they can work on his technique. We'll know by end of preseason whether he's made progress.
I always cheer for the physical freaks because if and when they get it, they are usually special. I am all for Cornwash breaking out. Plus, we are going to have to wait a long time to find a more entertaining nickname. oh.. wait... we still have the Bushrod....
Oh it's way too early for this yet. Magic 8 Ball says ask again later. When it comes right down to it there really aren't all that many openings that are all that undecided. It's probably more about who the backups will be at a few spots, whose the return guy, and how many players do we keep at certain positions. That last one will have a big affect on those guys who are on the bubble.
Right. There is not enough room on DL roster to keep Bass, Izzy, and CornWash. One of these guys is going to bite the dirt in training camp. I don't want to have to adopt a new Bear.
I agree with the others who think it's time to move on from Izzy. He'll turn 34 this season and his best years are behind him. He was a solid UDFA who ended up having a good career. This will be his 12 NFL season. Time to move on with the young players with (hopefully) higher ceilings.
Unless there's a injury, I can't see Izzy making the roster.
Ah yes but Izzy is the guy the young bucks need to put into retirement and knowing Izzy that won't be easy. Remember he can play both LDE and DT so unless one of the youngsters shows he's about ready to break out Izzy is still a worthwhile investment.
The fact that Washington didn't even see the field much of last year tells me that no matter how freakish he may be physically he may also be freakishly short on either effort or football savvy. He was an underperformer in college too so how long do you keep him around before you realize he's just another Vernon Gholston?
I'll bet the Bears see Izzy as the safety net in case the youngsters do not meet expectations - we're not totally screwed in that case.......we could certainly do worse than having a vet like Izzy in place. But my hope is that the youngsters do in fact take that next step.
I believe De La Puenta is a lock to make it as he is heir apparent to Garza and the Center position next year. So scratch off another spot.
Just noticed the DLP in there, damn I hate getting old and going blind
That's exactly how I see it too. He's insurance at this point.
Rat, Allen, Ego, Paea, Houston, Sutton, and Young are locks. That's 7 right there.
Bass is 90% in too
Collins is in unless PUP
That leaves Corny and Izzy fighting for a possible 9th-10th spot. If the competition is at all close, you keep the young guy with upside. Sorry, I was a big Izzy fan, but you take the 23yo over the 33yo.
Especially when said 33 yr old played for a division rival last season.
DLP is a lock IMO
They likely won't do that. That would be a complete waste of a draft pick.
That may be one of the tougher decisions they have to make. Do they burn a roster spot on a 3rd QB or try to get him on the PS? If Fales looks good enough in preseason you're probably right. Trying to get him through waivers may be too risky to venture. Once he's there he's probably safe but getting him there isn't.
The PAST dark secret of HALAS HALL was putting players on P.S.
And barely saw the field.
