Per The Score, he refused a pay cut so he will just be cut

Wilson is the slot. Hixon is the ST/backup wr. They're a ton of better WR's out there then Weems/Bennett out there.

Read that earlier. After the Hixon signing and reading that Wilson has been working his ass off with Marshall and Jeffery, I didn't really see the point in offering him a pay cut in the first place. I think he was always going to be cut by season start.

    Ric,
Well then the days of short WR's are over. Look at the size of our current WR's.
There are no short speedy WR's on DAA BEARRSSE anymore.
This is going into a whole different gameplan built on the recent past.

With the letting go of Weems and Williams ... no one is under six feet.

Our new KR/PR Chris Williams can play the slot as well. I was surprised they didn't cut Weems earlier.

    Weems gone!!!! :stpat3:

Where's the slot? Where have you been? On Mars getting a new supply of male chauvinism? :rofl2:

Last year we drafted Marquess Wilson and just this week we signed Dominik Hixon. And we replaced his 10 special teams tackles by signing another two or three DBs all of whom excel on STeams. All five of them combined probably equal less in cap cost than Weems and Bennett. I'm sad to see Earl go but on this team he has nowhere to play that will use him as well as he should be used. And Weems was the biggest waste of a contract I've seen since Emery arrived. At least the chose not to use Bush as much as they should have. Weems played and still did less than an UDFA who would have made 1/3 of what he get paid.

He was "welcomed back with open arms" .....poor sap. Where is the loyalty? It all started going down hill when Hester was replaced by Brandon Marshall as our #1 WR. :)

David Haugh wrote that Ted Phillips had to stand in Phil Emery's office with a gun to Phil's head and force him to do it. :smilebig:

Weems was a good ST guy but had WAY too many penalties. Plus he's not much of a WR. Too much money for what he brings.

It was probably a squirt gun. Better yet a cap gun!

By the time the 2014 team begins the regular season, the Jerry Angelo/Lovie Smith team will be 99% gone. It will be Phil Emery's 3rd season. Time to see the if the Emery era teams can supplant Green Bay as the big dog in the division.

He didn't play slotback up here, so I'd think it less likely he would play it in the NFL. Slotback is usually reserved for the boys who can take a pounding and come up with the ball. More likely on some plays one of the big bodies moves over to play slot while Williams goes outside. Don't need height as a WR if you're really fast. The big boy WR trend exists on both sides of the border, yet Williams still caught his share.

About Weems, there's always room on any team for good role players, but it you don't adjust or accept the role and the pay that comes with it, well . . . I'm amazed at how many players think they should be paid millions more for what they bring. A few months working in a mill for a couple of bucks above minimum might give them some perspective.

I think he can. It's pretty common in the NFL for your slot guy to be a small, fast quick dude. But hey, from what you say & the highlights I've watched he plays on the outside & does it well. Another one of those versatile guys Emery keeps taliking about.

Let's hope he can make the adjustment if he's used that way. For two leagues that share common roots, it's interesting to see all of the subtle differences. Unfortunately not every player can bridge those differences.

Glad he's gone, save the $, bring in someone better in the draft. Need to see what DeCamillis can do on ST coaching wise this coming season.

Hey Bill, what can we expect from Williams as a returner? Is he as electric as he looks in highlights?

I'm beginning to think that Emery's "open arms" are the rough equivalent of a "Sicilian kiss". :14_6_20[1]:
