I want to petition the league to change from quarters to fifths. We seem to play well in the fourth quarter. So we need to divide the game into fifths, that way we will have an extra period of good play. I would expect that we will play very well in the fourth and fifth quintile each week.

The added benefit is that the NFL and teams will make more money on commercials. Is anyone with me?

Eliminate the middle 40 minutes of each game. The Bears seem to get outscored 24-6 every week during this time.

Bears this season have typical started well got some points on the board in the first quarter. It is followed by two quarters were the Bears are not able to extend their lead and let the opponent into the game. The first quarter Bears then show up in the 4 quarter and win the game.

I would like to see how many points we could held the opponent to and how many our offense could scored if they kept their focus 100% through out the game.

All I know about fifths, is that the way they have been playing and then finally waking up at the ends of the games is enough to want to make you drink a fifth.

Just doesn't roll off the tongue.

"So there we were at the bottom of the third quint..."

"Jay sure has been Mr. Fifth Quint."

"What quint are we in right now?"

Sounds English, like something we'd expect from a game of cricket.

How long would a quint be? Dividing the game into fifths would be 12 minutes? Or do you want a fifth 15 minute period for a 75 minute game? Either way, "it's just not cricket".

Well, on second thought maybe it is cricket. :p

Seriously, though, I agree with weneedmore, it sounds strange. Since we have a quarterback, would we have a quintileback?

Maybe it would be even better to get the league to change the rules to no longer have defensive lines. Maybe the Bears are on the "cutting edge" of this movement since they already are playing without one. :D

So then we just regressed by "improving" our OL so we're no longer on the cutting edge of that movement?????? Can't we get ANY consistency with this team???

We are ahead of the curve. No DL. Emery had to get rid of Lovie because he had it backwards. He thought they meant no OL.

Emery: Hey Lovie... We aren't supposed to have a DL out there. We have a bunch of guys out there rushing the passer. We have to stop that.
Lovie: Phil, I haven't had an effective line out there for years. I did exactly what you said.
Emery: What do you mean, those guys are winning games for you?
Lovie: Phil, I don't know what you mean. they are just standing out there and letting everyone go by them.
Emery: That's what the Ol is doing. I'm talking about the DL?
Lovie: What do you mean the OL?
    Emery: The offensive line
Lovie: We're supposed to have a line for the offense too?
Emery: Lovie, you need a line on both sides of the ball. Never mind... We'll talk when the season is over.

Each quintile will need to be 12 minutes. If it was longer, we would have to pay Jay extra money or overtime @ time and a half. That would break the salary cap.
