For anyone who asked:
That hit reminded me SO much of Walter Payton unloading like that on defenders. I watched Walter do that countless times over the years. It was crazy good to see a QB do it. Jay just knocked the crap out of that guy. Chicago Bears football to the max. And it moved the chains when we needed it the most. Big time play by Cutler.
Wasn't it last year when he did the same to the Vikes, and maybe the Lions as well? Anyone who doesn't think Cutler is tough, doesn't watch the Bears games!!
It makes for exciting football, but I don't want to see Jay hurt. We got nothing behind him and our season would be over. All I could think after the play is "I hope he didn't get hurt."
Remember when people used to say Cutty isn't tough? lmao
Just a bunch of haters. Suck it bitches. :D
It worked this week because they were expecting him to slide. Now that it's on tape, Suh and other players are going to get their pound of flesh and make him pay.
I just wish he wouldn't lead with his throwing shoulder.
Trestman will talk to Jay about being smart, and not risking injury in the future.
He better. Otherwise we are going to get a healthy dose of McCown.
In the future SLIDE!!!!!
In this case, if he slid, I don't think he makes 1st down. Plus it fired up the team. It's called being a leader, something everybody in the media knows Jay is not.
May have gotten the first, but leading with your throwing shoulder is not the smartest thing in the world. Now that teams know he is willing to try and run through the opponents, they will expect it and nail him.
If I have to choose between my QB risking injury and missing the first... I chose missing the first.
Suh will use thy a an excuse to nail him if he tries that again.
Slide Jay!!!!!.... Do have to admit it was kinda cool to see that defender on his ask.
I agree with all that but this time it was a momentum changer. It was all steelers at that point and if we dont get that 1st down I think we lose the game.
but yeah he should not have led with the throwing shoulder. Although its nothing new for him so it shouldn't suddenly make him a target. Remember the helicopter touchdown?
I was listening to Trestman's post game comments and I am sure there will be a conversation between one of the coaches and Cutler over this.
I don't see this happening every week. When they showed the view from behind the play... Cutty saw Golden coming from 10+ yards beyond the point of contact. He had amble time to size up his foe. It was far from a split second decision. I'm sure Cutty will be sliding from here on out especially if its a DL or LB coming towards him.
I see where you were going, but looking at some highlights again...Not quite Payton =P. Walter was more like helmet to the chest (squarer hit), similar impact, then trying a spin move or striving to keep balance so he can brace for the next guy. Sweetness in motion was harder to stop then "good" Jay. I had zero positive anticipation seeing the shoulders lower for impact, I was only watching to see how Cutler got up.
Watching a QB block, or even make a tackle (assuming it wasn't a blatant error) does give you a warm fuzzy feeling to watch. I can only imagine the comments teammates make in the film room from this run. Helps that it was to move the chains, but he should have slid.
Perfect now they expect Cutty to run they will unload as he slides and he picks up the 15 yard penalty. Do the unexpected keep them guessing got like it play the head games with the defense.
Yea, great. They hit Cutler high as he slides an injure him more!
Def worth the 15 yards!!!
Agreed! However, I do think that Trestman, Kromer or the QB Coach will have a little chat with him about using his throwing shoulder in plays like that in the future BUT it does give the Defense for other teams something else to prepare for.
I don't want to see him running against the Lions next week ... at all. I don't want Cutler exposed to that group of cheap shot artists and more than absolutely necessary. If he does have to run, I hope to see a nice slide.
